'fine,' she said softly, 'I won't bug you anymore.' she said, looking down. After Spot had kicked her out of his bed Fire was her only other friend. Then she disappeared too and Nevada was left alone.....ended up fucking her way around Brooklyn so she wouldn't have to be alone. She felt the same pain in her chest that she felt when Fire disappeared the first time.

"No!" Fire quickly protested, her voice cracking. "That isn't what I want, Nev! Don't you get it?" Taking in a shaky breath, she rose to her feet. "That's the problem. That's exactly the problem and that's why I can't tell you." She turned her back to her friend, finally taking the time to wipe her eyes as she did so.

Nevada got up and moved over to Fire, moving to wipe away her tears with her thumb. 'what do you want then?'

Fire carefully turned her head away from the other girl. It was bad enough that Nevada was seeing her cry, but having the other girl this close to her was almost killing her. "I can't tell you that," she answered again, her head shaking. "It's for the best, trust me."

Nevada sighed loudly, dropping her hand beside her. She had never been good at touchy feely things until she had kids, now all she wanted to do was hold Fire and tell her it would be okay.
'fine......' she relented, looking down

"Nev," she whispered after a long pause. She slowly turned to face the other girl and, after what seemed like forever, she slipped her arms around Nevada's shoulders and hugged her gently. "I just don't want to lose you more than I already have."

Nevada moved her head so she could look at Fire and sighed. 'I ain't gonna ask anymore....' she said, finally agreeing to let it go for the moment.

Slowly, Fire sighed in relief. That was close... "Yeah, it's probably for the best," she agreed with a nod. She looked up at the sky, biting on her lip. "It's getting late. Your husband is bound to notice that you're gone."
