She laughed, bumping her foot against his under the table. "I'm terrible, I know." The food arrived and they ate and laughed and talked.
It was really like any of the other dozen times they gone to Tibby's together. But there was something, a kind of anticipation in the air, that was different.

Once he had paid for their food, he held his hand out for her, a small smile on his face.

She smile back at him, biting her lip, and took his hand. "Thanks for dinner, Mike."

"Welcome," he said softly as he led her out of the restaurant. "I, uh, thought maybe we could take a walk through Central Park? I think they strung up some Christmas lights this morning."

She beamed up at him. "Did they? Oh, I love this time of year! It's my favorite."

"Yeah, the city is beautiful at Christmas time," he said, holding her hand tightly as they headed toward the park. "I love the huge tree they put up."

She nodded. "I can't wait until Christmas." She flashed him a smile. "I know what I'm getting you already."

He furrowed his brow down at her, shaking his head. "But you don't have to get me anything!" he insisted.

She lifted a shoulder. "I know. But I'm going to anyway." She smiled up at him softly, then let out a pleased little gasp as they reached the park, looking up at the twinkling lights in the trees.

He smiled to himself as he watched her gaze around. This was definitely a good idea. He looked up at the lights, too, then noticed the sky. "Hmm, looks like snow..."

She nodded. "The paper said they expected snow by Thanksgiving." She pulled herself close against him. "A white Christmas would be nice."

"Have you always lived in New York?" he asked, letting go of her hand to wrap his arm around her shoulders.

She shook her head, sliding her arm around his waist. "No, I'm from Boston. I haven't even been here a year yet."

"Boston, huh? You should be used to having a white Christmas, then," he pointed out, squeezing her shoulders slightly.

She smiled and nodded, sighing a little as she squeezed her shoulders. "That feels nice."
