Sean had just managed to fall asleep and Rae decided that after the week she was having she deserved some peace and quiet. She never worried about leaving her son in the bunkroom, the girls had taken to him and if he started fussing when Rae wasn't there someone would make sure he was alright.
Raven went over to the fire place. She reached inside, her shoulder wedged up against the rough bricks. "Come on..." she muttered to herself and then grinned. She felt the bottle's neck, grabbed and pulled it out.
"Thank you," she said to herself, popped open the bottle and took a sip.
She sighed as she sank down into the sofa and kicked her feet up, settling in.

Race came into the lodging house with a rather blank expression on his face. He'd just gone through the most heart-wrenching goodbye of his life, and he didn't even know how to talk to anyone about it. It was almost like no one had ever entirely understood him and Sapphy, and that disconnect had gotten especially bad over the past month or two. So he headed for the parlor to warm up...and found the one person who might understand. And she was holding a bottle of booze.
"Hey, Rae," he said with a weary smile, sitting down beside her. "How've you been?"

"Holding it together considering my world sort of blew up today," She put the bottle to her lips and took a long gulp. After she swallowed she gasped and then smirked at him.
"Guess who's back?" She held the bottle out to Racetrack. "How bout you? You look like somebody reached into your chest and squished your heart into mush."

"So both of our worlds blew up on the same day?" he said with just a spark of interest, accepting the bottle and gratefully taking a long swig. Then her words sank in, and he almost dropped the bottle. "Wait...Spot's back!?"

"Yep. He was with Sean today while I was at work..." She said absently, leaning her head back against the couch. "Kapow...life explosion."

Race stuttered for a few seconds before he remembered what words were. He actually forgot about Sapphy for a brief moment. "I could've watched Sean!" he finally said. "How does he have a right to watch Sean? How does he have a right to even look at you anymore!? Where's he staying, anyway?" ((Angry!Race. ))

Raven stared up at him, her mouth gaping open just a little bit. She'd never seen Racetrack this angry before. She didn't even know he could get that angry. "He is his father...and trust me there will be no looking at me in that way anymore. Down boy."

((Going to bed, but I had to reply here first, haha.))
"Some father he's been," he muttered, giving her a dark look, then took another drink and handed her the bottle. He stared into the empty fireplace and sighed. "Sapphy left," he announced out of the blue.

"What? Why did she leave? She went out west? Is she crazy!?" Raven exclaimed. Her eyes nearly bulged out of her head. "Why the hell would she leave you? Oh Race," Raven frowned and then wrapped her arms around him in a tight hug.

He leaned against her gratefully but shook his head. "She ain't crazy, Rae. Her parents wrote a couple days ago, said they finally got the money together to make it out to California. It's her fam'ly, she had to go join 'em. We had our last few days together, and then I just saw her and Copper off on the train." He glanced at her and played with a pair of dice in his pocket. "I'm gonna be with her again, Rae. Someday." He didn't sound totally certain, though.

"I know you will," Raven said and managed a smile. She nudged him with her shoulder. "Cause you're meant to be, but for now stay around huh? Cause when you are gonna be together you're gonna have to leave and honestly I don't think I could handle that right now." She smiled sadly at him.

"Don't worry, I think I'll be around a while," he said with just a hint of bitterness, and managed to smile back at her. "So how'd it go with you and Spot? Lotsa yelling? Physical violence?" If she'd punched him, he was really mad he'd missed it.

"I did most of the screaming and right when I saw him I slapped him," She smiled, "It was very satisfying actually."

"I'll bet." His smile brightened a bit. "If you don't mind, I'm just gonna conjure that image up every time I start missing Sapphy. It'll do my heart good."

"Of course he came back with a snide remark after I slapped him but I ripped him a new asshole," She said with a smile and then sighed. "It's just...I'm confused ya know? He's always been there. Spot was my everything..." She looked at Race sadly.
