((No worries! We can keep going as long as Tristan won't die if she leaves him. ^_^))

"Give her to Goblin," growled Risk as Sammie glared back at him. "If we're gonna have to deal with all this shit, so should he."
((I'M ALL YOURS. NO DISTRACTIONS. Well, maybe a little bit, ha.))

Beth looked up at him and nodded grimly. That seemed fitting. As long as she could get in a punch or two. Looking back down at Tristan, she examined the wound and felt satisfied that the bleeding had stopped. Which meant there wasn't much more she could do. "Get him home," she told Jimmy with a fierce glare, getting to her feet and wiping bloody hands on her skirt. "Or his wife'll kill me."
With that, she followed Risk, Ershey, and the captive Sammie out the door, her face and voice softening as soon as they were out in the open again. "Ersh, how...how are you doing?"

Ershey looked over at Macbeth, only realizing now that they were out of harm's way. The past couple hours had been a blur and all she could do was follow them back home. "Uh, fine..." she managed, looking down at her feet and wanting nothing more than to see Mush.
"Goblin better be ready for this," muttered Risk, gritting his teeth as he held onto Sammie, who was struggling against his grip.
"If Eastman hears about this...!"
"Eastman doesn't care 'cause he has better things to worry about than you," spat Risk, his eyes filed with fury. "So shut up or else I'll put a bullet through your head."
Normally, Ershey would've shouted at Risk but she remained quiet as she held onto Macbeth.

The only reason Macbeth didn't deck Sammie with all her might was that she didn't want to upset Ershey any more. She just clung to her best friend's hand, guiding her through the shortcut of alleys, out of Five Points and back to the lodging house. She didn't say a word or even bother looking at Sammie, but she made eye contact with Risk a couple times. It still hadn't really sunk in that it was over. They'd all gotten out of there alive.

Risk breathed a sigh of relief once he saw the lodging house. He hoped no one was around as he led them inside and downstairs towards the basement. He couldn't think of hiding Sammie in any other place.
"Beth, get a chair and see if you can find Goblin," said Risk as he ushered them inside.

Macbeth did him one better; she brought a chair and a coil of rope she'd found amid all the other dusty old junk. Handing Risk the rope and giving Sammie a deadly look--cold with hatred, nothing like her usual theatrical glare--she started upstairs, beckoning Ershey to follow. Ershey needed a hot bath and her boyfriend, not a torture session.

Risk pushed Sammie down on the chair, tying her hands and arms with the rope with the most intricate ties and knots he could possibly think of. He nodded at Macbeth as he watched her take Ershey upstairs. He'd have to check up on her later.
"B-Beth," said Ershey quietly, her face still full of fright as they made their way upstairs. "What did you two do?"

Macbeth heaved a great sigh and closed her eyes for a moment. "We...Risk got..." Another deep breath. She started over. "Alec got mixed up in this plan of Goblin's." She gave Ershey a kind of pleading look; after all, she'd once gotten mixed up in a plan of Goblin's too. "He wanted to bring down the Refuge...got this big vendetta, y'know. And Alec found out that it was the Eastman Gang in Five Points who were keeping it open. The warden was selling 'em girls to use in their brothels." She shuddered at the thought of what might have happened to Ershey. "Anyway, Alec offered to go in undercover, find out details on the gang so Tristan and his boys could wipe 'em out. And I went with him."
She could barely meet Ershey's eyes now. "I shoulda told you, Ersh. I meant to tell you, I swear! It's just...it all happened so fast, and..." And I knew you'd look at me the way you're about to look at me right now.

Ershey stared at Macbeth, unable to process any of what she'd just said.
She shook her head, glaring at Macbeth for the first time in her life. "He went back to Eastman? Willingly? But Beth, why? Why did the two of you have to do this? What would've happened if we didn't get out of there -- what would've happened to Jo? Beth, what if something happened to Alec?" She couldn't help herself now, the words were coming out and her worry was increasing by the minute. She didn't even think to recognize that they'd rescue her amidst all the chaos.

She took a shuddering breath, hugging herself to keep various emotions from exploding out of her. "That's why I went in there. To look out for him. Ershey, I never would've let anything happen to him." And the admission of her true feelings for Risk was right there in the force of that statement, if Ershey happened to notice it. "I left Jo with Tristan...I knew he'd take care of her...and as for why he went back..." She sighed. "I think he had to. Falling in with Eastman's gang as young as he did, turning mean for a while, losing you...the kid had ghosts, y'know? And you gotta fight those, or they'll haunt you forever."
That was the best she could do, and it still didn't seem like enough of a defense. She hung her head and whispered, "I'm sorry, Ersh."

Ershey breathed out a sigh and pulled Macbeth in for a hug. "Thanks for coming back for me."

The tension finally went out of her like a popped balloon, and she practically collapsed into Ershey's arms, hugging her tight. "Thanks for being okay," she whispered. "If anything happened to you..." She would have killed herself. She hadn't the slightest doubt about it. But Ershey didn't need to hear that right now. "You...you oughta go rest. And I gotta find Goblin," she muttered grimly. "You need anything, Ersh? Anything I can do? Just name it."

"I'll be in the bunkroom... if you see Mush, can you, uh, send him over please?" said Ershey, pulling back and squeezing her arm gently. "And tell Alec he's gonna get an earful from me... when this is all over. Not now... but, uh, eventually. I'll be fine, Beth, go look for Goblin."
