He nodded, sitting at the kitchen table. He took a few bites before looking over at her. "You were upset, too?"

"Obviously, David! We had a terrible fight. I feel horrible about it!" Zippy exclaimed, flipping the pancakes. "I attempted to sabotage our relationship so you'd go to Dartmouth by telling you I loved someone else over you and you were still begging me to be with you." She looked at him, shaking her head.

He looked down at his plate, frowning. "So--so, you were lying about Tristan...right?"

Zippy joined him at the table with her own plate of pancakes. "Yes, David. Of course I was!" Why was she still so upset?

He nodded, glancing over at her. "I--I was worried for a while, there. I know you guys have some pretty intense history..."

"Yeah. I know. That's why I said it," Zippy replied shortly, barely glancing at him. She took a deep breath. "I'm frustrated with you because we should have talked about what happened last night, but because you were a drunk mess we couldn't."

He frowned, ashamed. "I'm sorry, Zip. I shouldn't have come over when I was like that."

"I understand why you did," Zippy pointed out, with a shrug. "But now we have to have an unpleasant talk about it. I'm really sorry for saying what I said to you, and I'm sorry for not listening to your real reasons for rejecting Dartmouth."

He nodded, lifting his head to look at her. "I'm sorry for what I said. I was rude to you, and it was mean."

"You weren't really that mean, David. Anything you said was because I provoked you." She clarified, getting up to make more pancakes. She was starving.

He watched her cook, chewing the inside of his lip. "But I should have been calmer. I shouldn't have gotten so upset. We do that a lot, Zip. Get mad about stuff, and then one of us just walks out." And it was usually him.

"Yeah," Zippy agreed with a sigh. "I mean, sometimes its important to cool off a bit. David, it felt like you didn't even consider Dartmouth when you walked in here. And your only excuse was that you didn't want to leave me! What would you have done in my situation? What if I had the opportunity to study art in Paris but refused to go because I couldn't leave you? What would YOU say to me?"

He sighed. "I would have told you to go. And then I would have asked to go with you." He lifted his eyes to meet hers. "Because I wouldn't have been able to be without you, Zip."

"we didn't get to that part," zippy replied softly, flipping a pancake. "besides. Paris is way cooler than new Hampshire. What would I do there?" she also didn't want to point out that their relationship was still so new. David was getting attached too quickly- what did he know, really, about love?

He sighed. "I know. It wouldn't have been fair to ask you to come with me. But it doesn't matter, 'cause I'm not going."
