Raven was already sitting in a booth with Sean on her lap, waiting for Race to arrive. He hadn't been himself lately and she was worried about him. She also thought sharing Sean's first spaghetti tasting with her would cheer him up.
Sean laughed as he waves a spoon in his hand.

Race definitely wouldn't have to ak Rae to spot him on their meal tonight. For a week, he'd been neglecting his duties as a newsie and casino-hopping instead, building up so much cash that he was starting to feel paranoid when he walked down the street. He would have blown it all at the tracks, but the tracks reminded him of Sapphy. And since he'd managed to avoid trouble after the card games--the fading bruises he was currently sporting were left over from Ershey's kidnapping--he'd managed to hold onto his wealth.
When he walked through the door of Mama's, the downcast expression he'd been wearing lately was replaced with a big grin. "How's it going, Rae?" he said, taking a seat and turning his grin to Sean. "Oh, kid, you don't even know what you're in for."

"Hey Race!" She said cheerfully, reminding herself internally not to comment on the fact that he looked like he hadn't slept in a week. "I can't wait for this."
"Ra Ra Ra!" Sean said and clapped his hands.

Race grinned at Sean. "Prepare for your life to change, kid." He glanced at Rae and reminded himself not to mention Spot...because he'd sworn off all mention of Spot forever, and because he really didn't want to know if what Jack said was true and Spot and Rae had been getting "cozy" again.

"I'm not sure if he's ready. Are you ready Sean?" she leaned over her son and peered down at him. Sean laughed and went "ya!" before letting out a squeal.

Chuckling, Race looked up just as a very familiar waitress came bustling toward them. "Sophia! "É stato tanto tempo fa!"
"Ah, Tony and Mia, so long indeed! How are you both? How is your son?" Sophia exclaimed, leaning over to kiss all three of them and clap her hands in delight.
"He ain't our..." Race gave up, as always. "He's fine, Sophie. And we're here for a big heaping plate of spaghetti, if you think you can manage that." He winked at her.

Raven laughed, she couldn't help herself. She couldn't help but think back on that extremely awkward terrible kiss that they'd shared. She smiled and shook her head.
"It's his first time having Spaghetti," Raven told Sophia as she bounced Sean on her lap. He was waving his arms around and laughing crazily. Raven had no idea what he was laughing at but, but she'd take it over crying any day.

"Ah, mio dio! What a great occasion in the life of a young Italian!" Sophia cried dramatically.
"He's half Irish, Sophia," Race reminded her.
"Oh, we can cure of him that soon enough! A few plates of my pasta will do the trick, don't you think?"
"...I'm half Irish, Sophia."
"And you see, it does not show at all!" the waitress said triumphantly, and bustled off to the kitchen to prepare their meal.
Race hadn't laughed this hard in quite a while. He shook his head at Raven. "She sees what she wants to see."

Raven laughed, "I know. The kid is blonde haired and blue eyed and she'd still convinced he's ours." She smoothed back Sean's messy hair and then kissed the top of his head. He smiled and held out his hands to Race.
"RA RA RA!"

"Is he trying to say your name or mine?" Race wondered. "'Cause it'd be kind of adorable either way." He swung Sean into his arms and set him on his lap. "Hey there, kiddo. I know Sophia's a little odd, but I promise she makes the best spaghetti in the city." He gave Sean a serious look. "Now, tell me you've been practicing those card tricks."

Sean looked up at his Uncle Racetrack and pressed his hand against his. He smiled.
Raven smiled watching them together. She wished he was like this with his father. "I think he's trying to say your name. He calls me ma." She took a sip of her water.

Race immediately lost the serious look and grinned at Sean. "Yeah? Well, it's Race, kid. C'mon, you can do it." Race!" He sipped his water and glanced casually up at Rae. "So, uh...how's everything been?"

"Good, I can't complain." she said with a shrug and then looked over her friend. "How about you?" Raven was clearly worried about him. Race hadn't been himself since Sapphy left. She honestly hoped that he would meet someone else who could make him happy.
Sean blinked up at Race and smiled, "ra rara ra!"

"Good enough, bambino," Race said fondly, and shrugged in response to Raven's question. "I've been...really lucky at cards." Not that that was anything new.

Raven slowly raised her eyebrow at him. "Oh yeah? Staying away from the track?" She asked him. She took a sip of her wine. She felt like there was something he definitely wasn't telling her.
