"Just make him believe you, that's all that we need," she said reassuringly. "No need for him to go after them again."

"You shot at them," Goblin reminded her, giving her a look. He really wondered about the company he kept sometimes. Not that he was all that much better when you came right down to it. He wondered whether they should open the door or wait for Eastman to come and collect them.

"And you wouldn't want him to shoot them this time, right?" she snapped right back, glaring at him. If Sammie was good at anything, it was following orders and trying to survive. She didn't regret anything and did what she had to do.

"You need to work on this whole conscience thing," he informed her, though he wasn't sure about the words even as he said them. All this would probably have been a hell of a lot of easier without a conscience.
But then he wouldn't even be doing it in the first place, right? Because it was all for the Refuge kids, not his own personal revenge, right? He didn't even know anymore. "So are we going out there or what?"

Sammie nodded, taking a deep breath before opening the door. Of course, the thug was still there. He turned around to face them, immediately blocking the way. She rolled her eyes and stared right back at him.
"We've got news for Eastman, now if you don't want to move, he'll be missing out on some information that he'd definitely want to know," she threatened. "Right, Manny?" She was lucky that she remembered his name. She mentally crossed her fingers and hoped it would work.

Manny scowled at her, looking her up and down and glancing at Goblin. "C'mon," he said at last, jerking his head toward the staircase. Goblin gave Sammie a quick look, shrugged, and followed him. They could get rid of him later, when he brought them to Eastman--which he did soon enough, leading them downstairs and into a very ornate office. Just like home, Goblin couldn't help thinking wryly. He'd grown up in a house like this, but he hadn't set foot inside one since he was twelve.

"Eastman'll come in a few minutes," he said, closing the door behind them and leaving them to themselves once again.
"You ready?" she asked, turning to face Goblin. She hoped nothing would go wrong. Then again, hoping didn't do much for her.
((Gotta run! We'll continue this tomorrow! And go to sleep, haha! <3 Night!))

"Too ready," he murmured, knowing it would take a hell of an effort to restrain himself from pulling out that gun until the moment was right. "Look, if anything goes wrong, just get out of here, all right?" He finally voiced the horrible thought that had been haunting him since he left. "Because someone has to go back to Duane Street and tell my sister or she'll never know," he said in a rush, imagining himself rotting at the bottom of the East River while Clara spent years wondering what had become of him.
((I know, I know! ^_^ 'Night! <3))

Sammie looked over at him and nodded, refusing to think about the worst case scenario. They just had to react quickly enough, that's all. They had to get out of there alive. Sammie opened her mouth to say something but closed it once she heard the door open. Eastman glanced at the pair as he walked towards his desk, sitting down on his chair and offering them to do so as well.
"So, what do you have to tell me?"

There were a few occasions in Goblin's life when he'd been more tense than this, but since they were occasions he never, ever let himself think about, this was probably the worst in his memory. And yet somehow, he managed not to let it show. At all.
"It's about Alec Williams and Beth Rowlands," he said. "I know where they are. They left the Duane Street lodging house not too long ago," he added, weaving in some truth to make the story believable. He glanced at Sammie as if to get her input. How would they decide when the moment was right?

"They were the ones that created that mess," muttered Sammie grimly. "This all wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for them. The two of us tracked 'em and they're actually hiding here."
Eastman looked at the both of them thoughtfully then smirked at Goblin. "You really want to be in this gang, don't you?"

He shrugged and nodded calmly. "Sammie told me how fast she rose through the ranks. Thought it seemed like a pretty promising career." Come to think of it, he did wonder how on earth Sammie had gotten where she was. How many leaders of major gangs took a fifteen-year-old girl as their second in command?
His fingers twitched, very slightly, near his pocket. He resisted the urge to glance at Sammie again. Say something, do something, just give me a signal, damn it!

"Well," said Eastman, standing up with his hands behind his back as he moved towards the side of his desk. "If you do well enough, you might just be rewarded." Sammie held her breath. The timing was perfect. If he had to act, the time was now. ((Hmmm, trying to think of how to include the family part... ))

((I have an idea. ;D))
Goblin held his breath. His hand drifted into his pocket, closed around the pistol...
...and the office door burst open. "Ah, sorry, Bobby--didn't know you was usin' this room," grunted the tough middle-aged man who appeared in the doorway. Goblin could only assume it was Oswald, the owner of the house. Eastman's attention was on his friend, so he shot Sammie a panicked look. This guy was not supposed to be here.
Walking further into the room, Oswald suddenly gasped. Goblin tensed, but the man wasn't looking at him; his eyes were on Sammie. "Is that little Samantha? Hell, how come you never brought her 'round here before? Ain't seen her since she was born...looks like her mother, but I think she's got your nose..."

Sammie visibly stiffened. She looked at Oswald then back to Eastman. Her eyes widened as she tried to catch her breath. What?
She looked over at Goblin helplessly, unable to focus on anything else other than the news she'd just heard. All plans of getting rid of Eastman was soon forgotten once she realized that they could possibly be related.
"Now's not the time, David," muttered Eastman, gently ushering his friend towards the door. "I'll fill you in later. Since we've got so much catching up to do..."
