Rose was, of course, listening. If he wanted to be friends with her, why didn't he just say so? "Are relationships always this difficult? Jimmy asked his cousin as they continued onward.
"Don't ask me, every suitor my father tried to marry me off to I scared away and the one who did finally marry me died. So here I am, mistress of my own destiny." She patted her cousins arm and he shook his head.
"Don't you crave compansionship at least?"
"Jimmy, do I look like I became a nun to you?" He instantly blushed.

Rose could barely meet either his eyes or Lady Walpole's eyes as she sat down at the table. "Good evening, my lord. My lady," she said softly.

Rose didn't speak at all during dinner, unless spoken to. She was trying to gather up the courage for what she knew she had to do afterwards. Talk to him.

"Well I fear I must be heading home." Rae said and stood. Jimmy stood as well as she left the room.

She dipped into a small curtsy as Raven left the room, and didn't take her seat again. "My lord..." she began, her voice a bit timid.

He stood up so he was level with her, "yes?" he asked her.

"May we...er...may I have a...private word with you?" she asked, trying her best not to sound as nervous as she really was.

Once the library door was closed behind him, Rose let out a deep sigh.
"My lord, I must confess...I heard part of the conversation you had with Lady Walpole before dinner..."

She promptly blushed, the butterflies in her stomach turning into dragons. "I...I'm not sure how to begin to explain myself..."
