"Sit, make yourself at home," he said with a smile, welcoming her in. He signed off on a bill quickly.

She did so, finding a cozy armchair and settling into it. "I wrote out the invitations to my family...Hopefully they'll be here by the week's end."

"That sounds great!" he said, truly meaning it.

Rose looked at him for a moment, studying him as best she could. Then she took a breath. "Are you sure it's all right that I invited my family?"

"Of course!" Jimmy said with a bright smile. "it should be a great Christmas."

Rose blinked then fixed her gaze on her lap. It would've been a great Christmas if her father had been there...but if he were, she wouldn't be in this situation at all.

"Is there anything special youd like for Christmas?" he asked her.

She shook her head, swallowing back the lump in her throat. She hadn't cried since her father died, and she wasn't going to start in front of the Duke.
"No, you don't have to get me anything. That's quite all right."

"It's Christmas, I have to get you something and I'd rather it be something you actually like instead of some ridiculous present that you're going to stick in the back of a drawer somewhere and forget about." He said with a shrug. Then he noticed how upset she looked.
"Are you alright?"

She stood up hastily, plastering a smile on her face. "I think I'll go explore some more. Or maybe read a book," she announced, picking up her skirts and heading for the door. She was pretty sure she knew where the library was.

"Rose, wait..." Jimmy called after her, jogging a bit to catch up with her as she fled. He cleared his throat and gently rested his hand on her arm. "Are you sure you're alright? I know this has to be hard for you...everything's new and your father..."

Rose stiffened at his touch, but she didn't turn to face him. "I'm fine, my lord," she replied, the coldness returning in her voice.

Jimmy cleared his throat and nodded. "Alright, the library is straight ahead of you." He turned on his heel and headed back into his study."

When he was gone, Rose let out a small sigh. She knew there were things they needed to talk about...but she just couldn't bring herself to do it. So she resumed her walk to the library, picking out a random book when she got there. She settled in front of the fire, opened the book, but didn't read. She sat there for the better part of two hours, just staring into the crackling flames.

As it was nearing dinner time Jimmy decided to stop working for the day and begin the walk to the dining. As he was walking there he noticed a woman coming toward him and groaned. Jimmy tried to turn around but before he knew what was really happening Rae had looped her arm into his and started walking with his toward the library.
"My dear cousin, you finally decided to emerge from your study where you have been hiding all day long. I wonder what for?" She mused.
"It's dinnertime," Jimmy said with a sigh and let her lead him. Rae always meant well, but he'd come to learn that her love life was always in shambles and didn't truly trust her opinion.
"Where is your lovely wife?" Rae asked and Jimmy nearly glared at her. "I see. So you are both still avoiding each other. Honestly, Jimmy."
"What would you have me do? Force the girl to talk to me? She doesn't even want to be in the same house as me let alone speaik to me. I'm lucky if I can manage to have her speak three sentances to me." Rae rolled her eyes.
Of course this entire conversation with happening right outside the library.
"Rae, she hates me. Just leave it be. We can manage to stay away from each other in the huge house if we so wish it." Jimmy remarked with a sigh.
"And is that what you truly want?"
"No, of course not." Jimmy said, sighing again. "I'd like for us to at least be friends."
"Then make it happen!" Rae exclaimed in exasperation.
