"Nah, that's not crazy at all," Nate shrugged. He laughed a little bit and loosely crossed his arms over his chest. "Actually, I think that's kinda sweet, in a way. You know, wishing fot a better future and all that. Most girls I know have given up hope already. This shows you still got some left. I like that."

She smiled, leaning back against the trunk behind her and stretching her legs out in front of her. "Well, I figure it could always be worse. Ya know?"

"Oh, I know, trust me," he agreed quickly. He always knew it could be worse than it was -- especially after losing April two years prior. As far as he was concerned, it didn't gey much worse than that. "Best part is that it eventually starts getting better again."

Nate watched Trixie's finger traced his bottom lip and he slowly took in a breath, "Oh... you think so, do you?" Slowly, he closed his eyes, relaxing at her touch.

"I'd like to say that I believe you, but I wouldn't want to set myself up for disappointment like that," he continued, his eyes still closed. He didn't mean to be a killjoy, but he was still trying to find a reason to wish for a future, let along plan one. He had already started that once before, only to end up losing it all. As much as he wanted to buy into Trixie's brand of optimism, he just wasn't sure he could allow himself to do that again.
A confused look came over his face when he felt her hand on his cheek. "What are you doing?"
