Nate climbed up into the attic and closed the hatch behind him. He settled himself in against a stack of trunks and reached into his pocket, slowly pulling out a silver flask. He glanced down at the flask and sighed, eyeing it for a moment before carefully unscrewing the cap. I remember when you gave me this for Christmas, he thought to himself as he slowly brought the flask to his lips to take a drink. He closed his eyes, the whiskey burning the back of his throat as it made its way down
He used to love the holidays, especially when he had April. She was almost the very definition of Christmas cheer, and he'd be lying if he said it didn't rub off on him at least a little bit. He couldn't help but get caught up in the spirit of the holidays when he had her.
His smile faded as he continued to think about her. She was gone, and there was no no way that she could ever come back. Before setting the flask down, he took another swig from his flask. This was going to be a long winter.

((I have a new character and I want to use her moooore. Plus, I sort of see her as my only character who really plays the field))
Trixie had found a bed in the bunkroom, but it hadn't come with a pillow. Or a blanket. Or sheets for that matter. One of the girls told her they kept extras in the attic, so that's where she went. She was humming to herself when she opened the hatch, poking her head in. She paused when she saw a guy sitting up there, drinking.
"Oh! Sorry!"

((haha sounds good to me! I need to start using my other characters again... oops!))
Nate's head lifted up immediately when he heard a girl's voice speaking, apparently, to him. He shook his head casually as he carefully made an attempt to conceal his flask. "Oh, there's nothing to be sorry about," he assured her quickly. "I'm not doing anything important. Honest."
He reached up and lightly rubbed the back of his neck, his forehead wrinkling as he looked up at her. "You, umm, you looking for something up here?"

She crawled through the hatch, closing it behind her. "Yup, I need bed stuff. My mattress ain't got any."

"Oh, yeah, I think you can find those things in that trunk over there," he replied, motioning over to a trunk closest to a small window. "At least... I think that's where I saw it."
He shrugged and picked his flask up again, taking another swing. "The name's Nate, by the way..."

She moved over to the trunk, fiddling with the latch. "Oh, I'm Trixie." She sent him a smile over her shoulder. "Ya know what they say about men who drink alone."

"Yeah, we don't like to share our whiskey," he joked. He couldn't help but smile back at the girl. In some strange way, she almost reminded him of April. It could've been her smile. It could've been how April saw no problem with an occasional playful jab, such as the one Trixie had just given him. Whatever it was, it definitely distracted him for a moment. It felt good not to have so many things running through his mind for a change.
He took another drink as he watched her search through the trunk. "Any luck, miss Trixie?"

She yanked out one or two things. "Found a sheet and pillowcase. Still need a pillow, though. And it's flippin' cold, so there's gotta be a blanket around her somewhere." She rummaged through another trunk, then shrugged, closing it to take a seat and smile at him. "It can wait."

"Here, this will help warm you up," Nate replied as he casually offered her his flask. "Can't guarantee that it won't put a little hair on your chest, though," he joked, a smirk coming across his face as he turned his head to look at her. "If all else fails, you can make a pillow by shoving stuff into an empty pillowcase. Don't think you can do a makeshift blanket though."

Trixie took the flask, tossing it back and taking a swig. She scrunched her nose as she handed it back to him. "Thanks. I'll figure somethin' out."

"I hope so, for your sake. It's getting colder now, since it's winter and all. Wouldn't want you getting sick or anything." His smile faded as he said that. Bad idea, Nate, bad idea. He carefully took the flask back from her and took another drink in silence.

Trixie tilted her head, the change in his mood apparent, even to her. "Hey...you okay?"

"What? Yeah, I'm fine," Nate replied with a quick shake of his head. Dammit, Nate[/], he mentally scolded himself. Get a hold of yourself.
"Just got some things on my mind, that's all." He paused and looked over at her again, trying his best to smile. "Don't worry your pretty little head."

She leaned forward, patting his knee. "Cheer up, Natey. It's Christmas soon." She gave him a smile, then snatched his flask, taking another swig.

What was it with girls and Christmas? More specifically, what was it with pretty blonde girls and Christmas? "Yeah, I know," he nodded, his shoulders shrugging as he wrung his hands together slowly. "I take it that you like Christmas? A lot?"
