He froze. "How...how did it get here...?" He frowned darkly, getting up to stalk back and forth. How had she found Rose? Did that mean her father knew where she was?!

"Tyler, calm down! Obviously she doesn't know where I am," she said, referring to the card. "Maybe...maybe she took it to Irving Hall and asked someone there to get it to me." Actually, that was exactly what had happened. Tag, who had been in the room when the package was dropped off by an Irving Hall employee and when Rose found it, was too engrossed in her novel to notice.
"Besides," she added, closing the box and setting it off to the side. "My father's probably long gone back to Atlanta by now. He doesn't care that much about me that he would stay here this long."

He turned to look at her, brow furrowed, eyes dark with worry. "I won't let him hurt you again, Rose. I'll fuckin' kill him before I let him touch you."

She finally stood up, standing close to him and framing his face with her hands. "I know you will," she said softly, eyes searching his.

He held her, wrapping his arms tightly around her, frowning darkly. "Rosie, I worry about ya, baby."

She wrapped her arms around his neck, closing her eyes as she hugged him. "I know, but you can't. You can't worry so much about me that you...that you stop thinking about everything else. I'll be okay, Tyler. Shit happens. Shit that neither you or I can control, so...there's no sense in worrying about it so much."

He held onto her, pressing kisses to her neck. "I love ya so much, Rosie. So much. Do ya know that? Do ya?"

She couldn't help a small chuckle from escaping her lips. "Yeah, I know that. And I love you just as much."

He kissed her forehead. "Marry me, Rosie. Let's just get married, and you'll change yer name and we'll move somewhere else so he'll never find ya. Ever."

"We can...in a few years," she replied, nodding. She knew that marrying him was what she wanted to do, but she didn't feel ready yet. She was eighteen years old. She wanted to be a teenager still and do whatever the hell she wanted. And a part of her wanted to reconcile with her grandmother.

He sighed. He'd marry her to tomorrow if she was willing. "Come lay with me."

"Of course," she replied, almost smirking. She kissed him once more before pulling back and heading toward the mattress. Maybe the fact that the card had said 'Happy Birthday' hadn't fully registered in his mind. At least she'd dodged that bullet.

Except it hadn't, because halfway to the mattress he stopped abruptly and stared at her. "Wait...it's yer birthday?!"

She blinked. Then she stepped up to him, smiling seductively. "I love you, Tyler," she said, standing on her toes to kiss him. Distract him, was more like it.

He moved away from her. "Oh, uh uh! Why didn't ya tell me??"
