"Totally untrue," Eli exclaimed, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "You'd be perfect because no one would be able to take their eyes off you."

She blushed and smiled up at him. "Can I stay over tonight? Charlotte told me Luke's stayin' with her at the Hall."

"Sure babe," Eli replied, with a shrug. "Luke is head over heels for that one. Great fixup. I think he's gonna buy a ring soon."

Trixie sighed dreamily. "Wouldn't that be great? Lottie's a total sweetheart, and she's completely in love with Luke."

"Yeah, it would. I'd miss him though," Eli replied, frowning. "He got promoted at work. They love him there. Everyone loves him."

"Luke's a good guy. He works hard, and he'll take care of Lottie." She looked up at him, stopping him to pull him into an alley, kissing him. "He'll never be near as good as you, though."

"He's better than me! have you met the guy?" Eli joked, kissing her. "I thought you'd be angry again when I told you...Jealous, or something."

"Jealous about what? That Luke wants to marry Lottie, but you don't want to marry me?" She sighed, kissing his chin, pressing her hands against his chest. "He found The One. And Charlotte's so sweet. Why would that make me angry?"

"I never said I didn't wanna marry you," Eli murmerd, hugging her to him. "But yeah, that's exactly what I thought. They've known each other for like a month..."

She lifted a shoulder, pressing her cheek to his chest. "Sometimes ya just know."

Eli let out a sigh of relief. The last thing he wanted was to deal with her losing her temper over Charlotte and Luke's possible engagement. "Well keep your lips sealed, Toots. Don't wanna ruin the surprise for Char or nothing."

She nodded, giving him a small smile, walking out of the alley and towards his apartment. She wasn't angry, not by a long shot. She was happy for her friend, happy for Luke. But maybe she was a little jealous. And more than a little sad. She knew she wanted Eli. But she always knew Eli wasn't so sure he wanted her.

Trixie nodded, listening, answering questions or giving her opinion when he asked for it. But her heart wasn't in it.
When they got back to the apartment, she went to his room, changing out of her dress and into a night gown she kept there now.

Eli made some tea, and snuck his head in Zippy's room, glad to see David was with her. "Did I tell ya yet about Erin?" Eli began, handing Trixie a cup of tea. "She got jumped in an alley. So if you see her, don't stare at her god-awful bruises on her face."
