[Specs]

"You just might get tired after selling all day," shrugged Specs. "You're standing all day... well, you have to do that, anyway. I guess you can take it. I was actually about to go to the Distribution Center. Did you, uh, want to come with?"

[Birdie]

"That would be really great, actually, if that's okay," she told him, smiling a little hesitantly, "since I don't know where the Distribution Center is..." She bit her lip, wondering if perhaps she should have thought this whole employment change through a little more thoroughly.

[Specs]

"What do you know about selling?" he asked as they walked outside. "Oh, and I'm Specs, by the way."

[Birdie]

"Birdie," she said, trailing behind him. "And I know almost nothing about selling."

[Specs]

"It's all about the headlines... it doesn't always have to be what it says," he smirked, leading the way to the Distribution Center. "Y'know, be creative."

[Birdie]

"Be creative," she repeated to herself and nodded. "Got it." She had to trot a little to keep up with him, holding her case under her arm. "So how long have you been a newsie?"

[Specs]

"Couple years," he answered. "Been doing it for a while, actually. It's not so bad once you've got the hang of it."

[Birdie]

"It doesn't seem bad at all, from what I've seen," she said. "Whenever I saw newsies selling in the park, they always looked like they were enjoying it."

[Specs]

"Some newsies have different styles... some girls like to, uh, be girls," he muttered shyly. "And some shout like there's no tomorrow... oh, and you have to find a good selling spot too, where there's a lot of people and someone hasn't claimed."

[Birdie]

Birdie furrowed her brow, a little confused as to how girls could be anything but girls, and nodded. "That makes sense..."

[Specs]

Specs gave her a reassuring smile as they got in line at the Distribution Center. "That's Weasley, you just tell him how many papes you want to buy for today."

[Birdie]

"How many should I buy?" she asked him as she raised up on her tiptoes in order to look over the shoulders of the newsies in front of them.

[Specs]

"How many do you think you're going to sell? You don't wanna buy too much 'cause you'll just end up paying for the leftovers," he answered, taking a step forward as the line moved.

[Birdie]

Birdie shifted her case to her other arm so that she could fish in her pocket. She pulled out a few coins, squinted at them, and then tucked them back. "Do you think ten papers is too many?"

[Specs]

Specs blinked, amazed at what she'd just said. "I think ten's a good start," he said, giving her a reassuring smile before asking for fifty papers.
