Duncan took it, then laid against Eli's chest, sticking his thumb in his mouth and sucking while his held onto the bear by its ear.
Trixie chewed her lip, smiling a little as she looked at her two boys, then sniffled when she realized she started crying.

Eli frowned. "Natalie. What's wrong?" He held Duncan to him with one arm and put the other around Trixie. "What the heck ya cryin' about, Kitten? I'll figure something out....Luke can always give us a loan, and we can sell the place if we have to."

She shook her head. "That's not it, I--oh, Eli, you'll be so upset with me." She took a breath, looking down at her lap. After a moment of silence, she murmured. "I'm pregnant..."

"P-pregnant?" Eli gave her a blank stare for a moment, letting the news sit with him. "PREGNANT? REALLY? YA SURE?" He laughed, grinning and then kissing her. "Why would I be upset?!" Duncan got excited too, looking at his dad and wondering why he was so happy.

She blinked at him, kissing him back in a bit of a daze. "Be--because you're havin' trouble with your play. And--and you're worried about money. And we just had Duncan only a year ago."

"Yeah but he's the best thing that ever happened to me!" Eli insisted, beaming at her. "I mean, look at him!" He picked Duncan up, waving him in front of Trixie's face. "He's the cutest thing in the whole damn world. We apparently make the best babies. Why shouldn't we have more?" He kissed Duncan, then kissed her again.
But she was right. Now he needed to get the play out more than ever.

She broke into a smile and kissed him again, letting herself linger a moment. "I wanted to tell ya before, but you were so busy writin' and all. I--I've known for two weeks."

She laughed. "I haven't told anybody. Wanted to wait 'til after I told you." She smiled, watching him with the baby. He was an excellent father. "I want a girl this time."

Eli nodded. "Me too, Kitten. But we shouldn't say those things because if you pop out a son I don't wanna feel an ounce of disappointment." Duncan grabbed Eli's nose and Eli made a honking noise.

Eli's eyes widened. "That's my boy!" He kissed him on the head and handed him back to Trixie. "Well I guess show biz is out for you. I'm gonna go back, try again with the writing..." He grabbed his mug.

She got up off the floor, setting Duncan on her hip. "Don't stay up to late?" She blushed a little, but smiled at him. "It's kind of a miracle we made this baby, seein' as how you've been comin' to bed after I'm asleep most nights."

"A miracle baby!" Eli cheered, arms in the air. "It's a miracle!" He went to the kitchen, pouring himself some coffee and kissing his wife and son goodnight. "We'll figure something out. I always do."

She sighed, but smiled, kissing him. "Just come to bed at a reasonable hour, alright." She kissed him again, then went back to the nursery to feed the baby and put him to bed.
