Eli kissed her forehead, and fell asleep.
The next morning, Eli woke up real early and ran to the corner in his bathrobe, buying a pape from a newsie to read his play reviews. "WHOO!" He cheered in the middle of street, as the newsie gave him a confused look. "Here ya go, kid." he gave the newsie a whole dollar, dancing as he made his way back inside.
"TRIXIE THEY LOVE ME! THEY REALLY REALLY LOVE ME!" He announced in their bedroom, handing her the paper.

Trixie had Duncan on the bed, playing with a teddy bear, and Lori in her arms, nursing. She took the paper with her free hand, keeping the baby at her breast. "'Latest Green Production a Sure-Fire Hit'...Eli! This is amazing! I told you!"

Eli cheered, bouncing on the bed. "C'mere, BIG D! Give Daddy a high five!" He held his palm out in front of Duncan, who shyly hit his palm.

Trixie laughed, finishing with Lori, then joining them, the baby fussing in her arms. She was still so, so tiny. "Are my boys makin' breakfast? I think we got some bacon."

"DUNCAN!" Eli teased, laughing. "I thought you were already on that!" Duncan giggled, swirling some batter with a spoon.

Trixie laughed, kissing Duncan's head and helping him so he didn't make a mess. "Oh, my baby's such a big boy now." Duncan grinned wide at her. "I TWO!"

Once they finished up, Eli put together all the leftover pancakes to take with them to the Jacobs'. "You ready to meet your new cousin, kids?"

Trixie had Lori bundled up, in a sling across her chest, then held Duncan's hand. "Now, you're old enough not to have to be carried all the time, but don't ya dare let go a' my hand, you hear me?"

Duncan nodded to his mother, but Eli gave him a stern look anyway. "I'm watching you, kiddo." And led the way down the stairs, still holding onto the plate of pancakes and bacon, plus the epic newspaper.

Trixie held onto Duncan's hand tightly, the other arm cradling under the baby where she lay in the sling. "Should we just get a horse cab?" They didn't live very far away from David and Erin, but it was still a walk to the nicer part of town.

Eli was already calling one over. "Definitely." He grabbed Duncan, throwing him in, and then helped Trixie in.

Trixie let the baby suck on her finger, cooing at her to keep her calm as she fussed. "This one's gonna be high maintenance, I can already tell."

Eli had Duncan on his lap. "And this kid wasn't? He's about to bawl right now watching you with Lori." Eli pointed out, chuckling and holding Duncan to him.
