"Then I look forward to working with you, Mr. Hoffman," Priest answered with a smile. He rose to his feet as well, then jerked his chin at Monday. "See these boys out, Monday."
Obligingly, Monday nodded and moved over to the door, opening it for them with a flat expression.

"Your boss," Hawk asked Monday on the way out, "he got anything on you?"

Monday closed the door behind him and followed Hawk and his boys through the bar. "Why d'ya wanna know?" he asked in a low voice, with his cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth.

"Well...why you so loyal to him? Dis ya start something with him? Paying off old debts or what?" what exactly was hawk getting him and Brooklyn into?

Monday smirked. "I have six brothers and sisters that need feedin', and he pays good." He looked Hawk over, then tilted his head. "But he's got somethin' on everyone, kid. And he'll have somethin' on you by the time this whole thing is over."

Hawk nodded, understanding. "Thanks for the warning."

"Just don't get in over your head, kid," he added, a little more serious. "Gettin' the girl is easy, but you finish that, he'll ask you to do somethin' else, and it probably won't be so simple." He straightened and glanced at Lenny and Finn, giving them a little mock-salute. "Enjoy your walk back to Brooklyn, boys."

Hawk smirked. "Will do. See ya around." Hawk led the way out, already planning on how to get his hands on the Hattan newsgirl.

Monday watched him go from the door of the Rooster, arms crossed over his chest and one shoulder propped against the doorjamb. After only two days of knowing this Hawk Hoffman, he didn't know whether to think the guy was crazy or very, very impressive.

((sure))
The next morning, Hawk led the way to Manhattan, but figured that Lenny was a better match to wait outside of Duane St Lodging House- it would be bad if he were to run into Jack or something. Hawk watched from across the street, Finn smoking next to him and eating a bagel.

After most of the other newsies filtered out of the lodging house, Birdie emerged with her case in one hand -- she had taken up the habit of selling in the afternoon, after a couple of hours of playing in the park. Oblivious to the Brooklyn gang watching her, she absently hurried down the steps onto the sidewalk and turned to go toward Tibby's, humming lightly.

((you can play as Birdie, if you'd like. but this is fine too. whatever you want!))
Lenny caught Finn's eye, who nodded, and took off after her. "Hey Sugar, ya got change for a nickel?" Lenny asked, all smiles.
Hawk and Finn followed.

((Yeah, I kind of belatedly realized it. I'll get the hang of the signing-out/signing-in eventually, haha. )) Birdie turned slightly to look at Lenny behind her. She gave him a bright smile. "For a nickel? I think so," she said, and fished in her pocket for some coins.
