Pie Eater came into the parlor of the lodging house and sat down next to the fire, letting out a weary sigh and resting his head on the back of the couch. This place may not have been the most glamorous living place in New York, but he'd missed it -- leaky ceiling and all.
He'd been at his parents' house for Christmas, and that had turned into a month away from Duane Street. All five Melas children had been roped into the holiday festivities, and it had been a madhouse of food, frenzy, and, as with all family events, bickering.
But now he was back, looking forward to some gloriously quiet evenings in the parlor with a book and one of those tins of cookies his mama had tried to sneak into his suitcase.

Rose was searching for something. Remember that shocking novel she was reading, 'The Lascivious Lord'? Well, she couldn't quite find it at the moment. And she had just gotten to a really good part, too!
She opened the door to the parlor and let out a huge sigh. If it wasn't in here, then she had no idea where else it could be.

Pie had discovered the shocking novel underneath one of the cushions on the couch. The Lascivious Lord? It was practically begging to be read, even if just for a good laugh.
By the time Rose opened the parlor door, he was stretched out on the couch with the tin of cookies on the floor beside him, flipping a page of the book with his eyebrows raised incredulously.

Rose stopped suddenly when she saw the boy reading her book - as if it were his to read! Well, it actually wasn't Rose's to read, either. It was Tag's, whom Rose had decided to call Bookworm instead. But that's not the point!
"Uh, excuse me," Rose interrupted, brows furrowed. "What do you think you're doing?"

Pie looked up over the top of the book, then closed his finger around his place and slowly sat up. "Reading," he told her succinctly, then reached down to get another cookie out of the tin.

Rose quirked an eyebrow, deciding not to raise her voice just yet. "Did you know that's actually my book?"
((I do that all the time!!))

"It was in the couch," he answered without looking over at her, tucking the cookie into his mouth and opening the book back up.

"Yeah, because I left it there. On accident," she pointed out, watching him intently. Tyler always seemed to shift uneasily under her intense gaze, so she knew by now that it was a weapon she could use.

Pie finally glanced back at her, an eyebrow raised, meeting her gaze without much trouble. "You should keep track of your things better," he said blandly, then closed the book and held it out to her without bothering to get up from the couch.

Rose let out a sigh, rolling her eyes and letting out a humorless chuckle. She took a few steps and grabbed the book gently from his hands. "Thank you," she murmured.

Shrugging his shoulders, Pie settled back into the sofa and folded his arms over his chest. "No problem," he answered, barely managing to hold back a smirk. He could see that he was annoying her.

"How far did you get?" she asked, not quite leaving the parlor yet. She hadn't ever seen a boy read one of these books. She was curious about what he thought.

Pie lifted his brows again, then picked up the cookie tin and offered her one before taking a bite. "Maximus had just abandoned the young widow on the side of the road. I think she was coughing on carriage dust as he drove away." He brushed crumbs off his shirt absently.

"Ah," Rose replied, leaning forward to take a cookie. She murmured her thanks before biting off a piece. Then her brows shot up. "This is really good...Did Script make these?"
