"Daisy is 13," he corrected her, eyes still narrowed. "Which is far too young to be having crushses in the first place." Chris crossed his arms over his chest grumpily, thinking to himself that he needed to keep an eye on this Mason kid. He didn't care if he was 12.

Mel shrugged, trying not to be upset that she was angering Chris. "Mason is really innocent, Chris. He's a bookworm, you have nothing to worry about." she smiled at him again.
"So what are you working on for class?" she gestured to his sketchbook.

He opened the book and showed her his unfinished sketch of a squirrel in Central Park. "He was the only one who stood still long enough for me to actually draw him."

"oh he's so cute!" Mel exclaimed, grinning. "My mom would love that, she's obsessed with drawing animals." Mel dug into her bag and pulled out a necklace. "What I've been working on."

He let the necklace rest in his palm, handling it delicately. "You made this?" he asked, brow furrowed as he examined it.

"Yes. I'm not the best at drawing, but I like making jewelry." Mel took the necklace back. "I'm giving it to Lori for her birthday."

He shrugged, his lips lifting into a crooked grin. "The usual, y'know," he replied. "You?"

"Same. My dad is pressuring me to take higher math which is brutal." Melody sighed, putting hair behind her ear. She was smart, but Now she felt she was spending all her time studying math.

"That stinks," he replied, brow furrowed. He was glad his parents didn't pressure him to do things like that. Yet. "But you're really smart, you belong in all those smart classes."

"Thanks. It's just a lot of work," Mel answered. She glanced at him. He was so sweet and down to earth. She blushed thinking about it.

"I would help you if I could, but math's not really my strong suit..." he said, chuckling a little.

Melody wondered what that meant. Was he just being friendly, or did he actually want to send more time with her? "are you thinking of going to college?"
