He wrapped his arms around her from behind. "Rosie, trust me. You're next to perfect."

She rolled her eyes, scoffing. "In your eyes, maybe. But you're also extremely biased."

He smirked. "Rosie, relax." Because now she didn't have a choice -- they'd arrived at the Russell County station. He got their bags, leading her out and off the train. He was almost giddy, taking a deep breath of fresh country air.

"Well, it's beautiful here, that's for sure," she said, gazing around. It was already so different from being in the city. And she loved it.

He led her away from the landing, looking around. The station was nothing more than a one-room building with a few benches to sit on in case it rained. They were in Podunk Town, USA. And Tyler loved it. "Come on. We got some walkin' to do."

She followed him, insisting she carry her own luggage for at least part of the way.

He agreed, but only because he was too excited to put up a fight. The walked from the station through town, past the town square. A few people recognized Tyler and said hello, and Mr. Johnson stopped in his buggy, offering them a ride the rest of the way.

Rose wanted to observe that Tyler seemed so happy. Happier than he'd been in the city. But once they got inside the buggy, she clammed up.

Tyler held her hand, grinning at her, then when Mr. Johnson dropped them off at the end of their drive, he practically dragged her out. "Come on!"

Rose laughed, stumbling a bit along behind him.

He stopped long enough to kiss her, then pulled her towards the house. "Mama! MAMA!"
It took a minute, and then a short, round woman in an apron came to the screen door...and screamed and ran out to him, throwing her arms around Tyler.

Rose bit her lip, suppressing a smile as she watched the reunion. How was he ever going to leave after this?

He kissed his mother maybe a hundred times before pulling back, grinning. "Mama, I got someone I want ya to meet." He turned to Rose, holding his hand out to her. "Mama, this is Rose Howard. I'm gonna marry her."
Mary Anne McGowan blinked at Rose, looking her over. She had tears in her eyes. "Well, she's skinny. But I'll fix that." And then she was hugging her.

Rose hugged her back, blushing. "It's so nice to finally meet you," she said softly. "Tyler talks about you all the time."

Mary Anne patted her cheek, then grabbed Tyler's arm. "Aw, aren't you the sweetest. Come on, lemme get some food in ya. Yer Daddy's gonna be thrilled." She tugged them inside, and Tyler could not stop grinning.
