Rose finally understood what Tyler meant when he said that her being happy was all he needed to be happy. Because seeing him like this, it made her happy. Sure, she was uncomfortable and shy and nervous about meeting all these people who were so important to Tyler. But she couldn't stop smiling because he was smiling.

"Where's Daddy, Mama?" he looked around.
"Out in the barn, and the girls are already at school. Go on and take Rose upstairs and get settled. Your room's all ready for ya, honey. I'll put some breakfast on."

Rose followed him upstairs, gazing around the house as she did so. "Where am I going to sleep?" she asked once they reached the landing.

"With me. Mama won't argue, not when she's this happy to see me." He led her to his old bedroom, still kept clean and fresh by his mother, who was always waiting for him to come home.

"Well, I won't argue, either," she replied, chuckling a bit. She knew it would be considered scandalous anywhere else, but she didn't really care. Her mother would have a heart attack if she knew, but she didn't really care. Tyler's embrace was about the only thing in the world that made her feel safe.

He put their bags down, then wrapped his arms around her. "You'll like it here, Sugar. I know ya will." He wanted her to want to stay.

"Well, as long as you're here, of course I will," she said, even though she knew it was extremely sappy.

He grinned and ducked down to kiss her, then kissed her a little deeper. "I love ya, Rosie. I really, truly do."

"Like I don't know that already," Rose replied, smirking up at him.

He chuckled, then took her hand. "Come on. I smell country ham." He led her back downstairs, where his mother was currently working on a whole spread to feed them.

She held tightly to his hand, following him downstairs. She thought she might faint from all the amazing smells of the food.

He pulled a chair out for her to help her sit. "Smells good, Mama."
"Go get your Daddy, he's in the barn. Let me and Rose get to know one another a minute." She sent them both a wink. Tyler kissed his mother's cheek, then left to go find his father.

Once Tyler was out of earshot, Rose let out a small sigh. "I should probably say that you shouldn't have gone to so much trouble making all this good looking food, but...train fare isn't really the best. So I'm glad you did."

Mary Anne chuckled, glancing at her as she turned the ham over in the skillet. "Ya need a good meal, and my Tyler loves my cookin'." She glanced at her again. "So. Tyler's in love with ya, hm?"

Rose shrugged, eyebrows raised a bit. "That's what he tells me." She was trying to hide her smirk.
