Nate walked along the docks in Brooklyn, glad to finally be away from the lodging house for at least a little while. He shook his head, fighting back an amused laugh. When did women get so disrespectful?
He reached the end of the dock, his hands shoved deep in his pockets as he looked out over the East River. For a dirty city, this place wasn't so bad.

Tristan saw some kid standing on the edge of the Brooklyn Docks, a kid he didn't know which wasn't all that odd actually considering he wasn't a newsie no more...just that this kid seemed out of place.
He tossed his cigarette to the floor and tucked his hands in his pockets. He whistled and it echoed in the crisp fall air. "You lost, kid?" He called to him.

"Me?" Nate asked, his head turning in the direction of whoever it was that had spoken to him. "Nah. I'm just where I wanna be."
He shook his head before returning his attention to the water. "Been a long time since I've been out on these docks. Feels kinda good to know they haven't changed."

Tristan leaned against one of the dock's posts, shoulder pressed up against the hard wood.
"Something about that stinky water always gets me too." He said with a smirk.

Nate couldn't help but laugh at that. He took a step back from the edge of the dock as he made his way to one of the other pilings across from the other man. "I didn't miss the smell, that's for sure," he agreed, his arms crossing over his chest.
"The name's Nate."

"Tristan," He said and eyed this new guy. He seemed a little familiar but he couldn't be so sure. "You used to hang around here a lot?"

"A couple years back, yeah," he replied casually, his eyes gazing out over the water. "Loaded and unloaded boxes from ships two piers down."
He returned his attention to Tristan, trying to see if he recognized him at all. "I suppose a lot of guys around here did that sorta thing though, huh?"

"yeah I probably just recognize your face, I was newsie," Tristan said with a smile and then shrugged.

"A newsie, huh?" Nate asked with a grin. "Not bad... What do you do now, if you don't mind me asking?"

"I box," Tristan said. "Always been good at beating people up so I figured I might as well make some money at it."

"Smart man," Nate remarked approvingly. "Don't know if I could do that, myself, but if you can make it work, that's even better."
He shrugged and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a cigarette and brought it to his lips before striking a match to light it. "How long you been doin' that for? I've met other boxers that look beat to hell, but you seem to have fared better than they did."

"That's cause I never loose," Tristan said with a grin, "It's been going good, but I know I can't do it forever."

Nate laughed at that, his head nodding slowly as he took a long drag from his cigarette, "Ain't it the truth? Make the best of it while you can then, mate."

"You better believe I am." Tristan lit up a cigarette and took a long drag.

Nate ashed his cigarette into the water below beofre lifting it back to his lips to take another drag. "How does your girl feel about you boxing?"
Assuming that Tristan had a girl, that is. He looked like the kind of guy that did and, fater all, most girls seemed to enjoy the 'tough guy' type. In his mind, there was no way that this other man was single.
