"yeah, Risk said she hates almost everyone," Nate laughed. Now he definitely didn't feel bad about his encounter with her back at the lodging house.
Nate listened carefully to Tristan's description, trying to remember if he happened to see anyone that matched his description of this other girl. "I can't say that I've seen her around," he finally commented. "I might have to keep an eye out for her. You said she's got a kid? How... how old is the kid?"

"I never said that!" Nate responded with a quick laugh. "It's just been a long time since I've been around a baby, that's all."
"If, uhhh, if you don't mind me intruding, where's the baby's father?"

"He ran off to Chicago, so it's just Rae and the baby. Nobody knows if he's coming back. So, I figured if you wanted to meet her or something it couldn't do no harm." He shrugged.

He didn't even know the guy in question, but he couldn't help but feel some anger towards him. What kind of man just up and leaves a woman and her baby like that? "It can't hurt," Nate replied with a slight smile. "Chicago's not exactly within daytrip distance."
Surprisingly, Nate didn't feel all that nervous about agreeing to meet this girl. After all, it had been a few years since he had lost April -- maybe it was finally time for him to move on.

"Alright...you know where the Duane Street Lodging House is right? Pick her up there in the lobby at seven tomorrow. She'll be waiting, I'll make sure she says yes." He smirked.

"Well, all right," Nate agreed, slightly nervous about this sudden blind date. After all, it had been years since he had gone out with a girl! What if she blew him off? What if she hated him?
