Race remembered Sapphy saying that she and her brother were practically the same person. He'd seen Sapphy angry, and yes, it could be fairly terrifying, but he couldn't imagine her being this fucking hostile to a total stranger. Much as he wanted to like Kevin for her sake, he wasn't finding many reasons.
"We stay at a lodging house on Duane Street, in Manhattan," he explained as patiently as he could. "She was going by Sapphy by the time I met her. We're friends and we happened to meet up in Brooklyn tonight. I'm Tony Higgins, nice to meet you."

Copper had a hard time not beating Race to a pulp and giving the, "Stay away from my sister!" speech. Yeah, he was pissed. He didn't like the way Race, er, Tony would look at Shaye.
"I found out about the apartment. Sorry ye had to go through that on yer lonesome," he said to her gently, demeanor instantly softening.

Sapphy looked at Racetrack with surprise, not expecting to hear the name Tony come out of his mouth. She tugged on Copper's sleeve to keep him from glaring at Racetrack in intervals.
"It's okay. Kennedy Blake helped me out a lot... We can talk more about this later, okay? I'm just so happy to see you."

Hellcat? He decided not to ask. He was starting to wonder if he and--Copper, apparently--could get through the walk home without coming to blows. "Y'know, I technically left a friend drunk and depressed back at O'Reagan's. I could head back there, if you two wanna catch up and all."

"Smartest thing you said," Copper chirped happily before taking Sapphy by the elbow and dragging her off.

"KEVIN!" Sapphy yelped, trying not to laugh. "The lodge is the other way!" She started to drag him in the opposite direction.
"Race, I-- Sorry. We'll talk tomorrow okay? Promise?" She looked at him hopefully which earned a darker scowl from Copper.

"'Course," he said, smiling at her and raising a hand in farewell, before heading right back across the bridge, fumbling desperately in his pocket for a cigar.

((Haha thank you for indulging me. I am going off to bed. Go back to your real work, and in the back of your mind, help me think of the next Race/Sapphy thread while I try to dream it up. Obviously, Copper is going to have an irrational jealousy towards Race/overprotection for Sapphy. Until Race, Kevin was the one who saved her from herself.))

((I'm so excited for all of it. ;D Race so rarely gets hostile with anyone, so that's gonna be fun. Sweet dreams, love!))
