"It ain't really working out so good..." Jack admitted with a sigh and followed the girls inside. "She said she wasn't right for me. What the fuck does that even mean!?"

"Maybe she's...too short," Race suggested as the madam stepped aside and the girls swarmed around them, posing and giggling and making various suggestive remarks. "She's pretty short, y'know. She's shorter than you." One of the girls draped herself over his shoulder and kissed his neck. He patted her back absently and thought about Sapphy.

((HAH so awkward and awesome))
Jack had a girl wrapping herself around his body, kissing his neck.
"Too short? Ain't they supposed to be shorter than you?" Jack asked. He was so confused.

"I dunno, it's not like these things are logical," said Race, who had definitely dated one or two girls who were taller than he was. "What was the context? Context is important."
The whores, who were not used to being ignored, were starting to look kind of annoyed.

"We was talking about how different our lives were..." Jack raised his both eyebrows when the girl grabbed his crotch.
"Uh...WHOA"
((HAHA))

Race finally noticed the hands wandering down his own body, and carefully disentangled himself, backing away and smirking at Jack. "If you two wanna be alone..."

"Okay...maybe this was a bad idea," He was starting to feel dirty. He also disentangled himself, grabbed Race by the arm and booked it out of there.
"Couldn't do it man."

Race shook his head sagely. "It's always kinda empty if you ain't shared some adventures, or at least some good conversation," he lectured. He supposed that made him a girl, stereotypically speaking, but he was incredibly drunk and really didn't care. He collapsed on the curb and pulled Jack down beside him. "Jack, why don't girls like us back? We're both really good people. And I speak Italian, and you've got..." He motioned vaguely at Jack's hat. "...the whole cowboy thing. So...why?"

"I dunno Race..." Jack hung his head and sighed. "Maybe we're broken or something? I dunno." Jack leaned back on his elbows and looked over at Race.
"So no luck with Sapphy huh?"

He shook his head morosely. "She's just...she's sad and I can't cheer her up, and we're friends, but she don't want nothing else. And I really, really...I'm just completely in love with her," he admitted, resting his head in his hands.

"Damn Race...." Jack sighed heavily. "You sure that's all it's gonna be?"

"Pretty sure. But obviously I'm desperately clinging to the hope that maybe things'll change 'cause..." He looked up with a rueful grin. "I mean, I've spent my whole life betting on horses that never win. Not that Sapphy's a horse. She's not a horse. I'm talking about me," he explained. It all made perfect sense in his mind.

"Race..." Jack smirked at him, "One day you're gonna win big, I know it."

"I know. And one day you're gonna get to Santa Fe and buy a ranch," Race said fondly, checking out their surroundings for the first time. "We should get home, y'know. Which way's home?"

"Uh...that way I think," Jack pointed toward the river. "Is the sun comin up? I'm still drunk and now gotta work all day...fuck."
