His bag over his shoulder, Hammer opened the door to the Brooklyn lodging house and stepped inside. He'd heard about this place from a couple of his prison mates. They said Brooklyn was interesting, definitely not too boring or too high strung, making it perfect for him. He wanted to start over and why do it in a place that had nothing going on?
Seeing that the place was empty, he walked over to the ledger and clumsily signed his name. He immediately became distracted, however, once he saw a broken window not too far away. It looked like it was about to fall off of the wall but he knew well enough that it wouldn't be a hard fix. Striding towards the window, he put down his bag, grabbed a couple nails along with his hammer and set to work.
((Whee, go people, go!))

Isa was the only person home at the time mostly because she'd been threatened if she left she'd be in more trouble than she was at that point. She had broken ribs, was pretty mangled and yet she didn't seem to be bothered. The hammering was driving her insane. Getting up out of bed, she drew the blanket around her shakily and headed down stairs. Blue eyes threatening--- when she saw a new guy-- with a hammer.
"Ya know.. that noise.. could get you mangled..." Like she could do anything, she'd been beat to hell but it didn't stop her mouth.

Hammer stopped his work, sighed and turned around only to look at the girl with surprise. Geez, Brooklyn was definitely something.
"It's broken," he said as if she didn't see the obvious already. "I need to fix it."

She tilted her head and moved down the stairs a little bit more, wincing at the movement as she looked at the window then at the guy who seemed to be intent on it. "They paying you?"

Hammer shook his head, looking back at the window and finishing off the nail he was working on. He figured that should hold it for now.
"Nah, I just saw it," he answered, putting his tools away and walking up the stairs to meet her. "You, uh, live here?"

She raised a brow and grunted a bit, bare feet on wood, not exactly dressed for company but since most of Brooklyn didnt' see her as more than a younger sister, let along Buccaneers younger sister she didn't really bother to think that her shift and blanket might not be proper. "Yeah, I do. And I'm not allowed to leave right now.."

Hammer looked at her in confusion, not quite what to make of her. "Right," he muttered awkwardly, nodding. "It looks like you need to rest, so... I'll just fix that window later..."

It was hard to know what to make of her, she shrugged her shoulders and sighed, though she winced after. "Come on up, I'll show you 'round since I'm the only one here. They call me Picks.." she grumbled it out. "But I prefer Isa."

"Jonathan," he replied, actually quite concerned for her. If he had it his way, she'd be back in bed. It looked like she hurt with every step. "But someone told me to choose a nickname so I go by Hammer too, I guess."
He followed her closely behind, his curiosity building up inside of him. "You got in a fight or something?"

She smiled at that, "Johnathan, I like it... my brother and his knuckle heads nicknamed me..." With that she turned slowly and headed up the steps just a bit, stubborn enough to raise her head and keep going. "Huh? Oh, yeah... four against one are really bum odds."

Hammer looked at her with concern, his brow furrowing. "Want me to beat 'em up for ya?"
If there was one thing he learned, it was not to raise a finger on women, even if it was a pinch. He liked to think he was still a gentleman in the way. Too bad the system didn't think so.

She paused for a moment and looked over at him before she laughed, then she winced because it hurt. Rubbing her ribs gently she kept going up the stairs. It took her a moment before she stopped and turned around to look at him. She didn't want to be rude, like she normally would have to anyone she knew--. "You really just offered to pound on four guys you don't even know for some girl you just met?" Being from Brooklyn, born and raised they were hard core women, they stuck it to people.

"Why not?" he answered, shrugging. "I can take 'em." Then again, he wasn't about to explain to her that he lived in prison for ten years. It made him ready for anything, even if it meant beating up four guys for no reason at all.
"I mean, er, I don't have to..." he muttered, only now realizing what he just did. He really needed more help on his social skills. "I can just fix that window downstairs."

She actually chuckled, normally someone like him would drive her nuts. Really, but she kind of appreciated the show of brass. That was something that she could appreciate for someone wanting to be in Brooklyn really, "John... " She smiled trying not to chuckle at how awkward he turned. "It's fine."
Turning again she started back up the stairs, "You don't need to fix the damn window.. come on. What do you know about Brooklyn?" She got to the top of the stairs and leaned against the wall. Yes. Triumph.

"Not much," he said, shifting his bag on his shoulder. "Just heard about Spot Conlon and this place from... uh, a couple people. Why? Is there somethin' I need to know?"
