Sammie took a seat, immediately looking out the view even though they hadn't moved an inch yet. She was too excited to notice anything else, even when Goblin paid for the ride.
"You ever been on one of these?" she asked, holding onto the side as they slowly moved upward.

"Sure, when I was a kid..." He smiled as the Ferris wheel creaked into the motion and they started to move up, the wind ruffling through their hair. He glanced sideways at Sammie. "Didn't they ever do anything fun for you kids at the orphanage? They should've, I don't know...bought you all ice cream sometimes, or taken you to places like this." And now he was actually feeling guilty that his mother hadn't donated enough money to the orphans. Because he was feeling semi-responsible for the misery of little orphan Sammie.
All right, so Wraith and Maggie were possibly right about his guilt complex.

"They rather spend money on food and fixing the leaky roof or the bunkbeds at the orphanage," answered Sammie as if it were nothing. "We went to parks once in a while but nothing like this..."
She glanced over at him, putting the pieces together. "You've never been in an orphanage, huh?"

"Well, I'm not an orphan," he pointed out. Unfortunately. They were slowly moving upward, with Coney Island spreading out beneath them, and the rest of Brooklyn starting to take shape. He wondered if you could see all the way to Manhattan when you reached the top.

"That's not what I meant," muttered Sammie under her breath, rolling her eyes at him before looking back towards the view.

He rolled his eyes right back at her. "No, I've never been in an orphanage. You ever been on the Upper West Side?" They were almost at the top now, and he thought he could actually make out the Brooklyn Bridge gleaming in the distance. Another gust of wind made the cars rattle and sway, and a few of the younger kids screamed. Goblin grinned in spite of himself.

"You mean where all the rich people live?" she asked, smiling slightly as she looked down at the view. She'd seen nothing like this before. Sure, she'd been over the Brooklyn Bridge but it was different looking at it from up above. "What about it?"

"That's where I'm from," Goblin admitted softly, following her gaze down to the sea of people and dazzling lights spread out below them. He chuckled to himself almost wonderingly. "Come a long way, I guess."
