Leo sat outside the New York City Animal Shelter, wondering if Tag would actually show up. After his conversation with Ershey the other night ((which I'm going to assume made him feel way better bc ersh is awesome)) he figured he wouldn't just give up, even if he did feel bad about stepping on Specs's toes.
That morning, Leo had left Tag a note on her dresser to come meet him at this location at noon, and didn't say what it was. Hopefully she would find the place easily, and hopefully she would WANT to come. Leo was looking forward to the surprise, and for them to play with some stray dogs and cats. Leo had connections at the shelter- he volunteered there a few times a month- and was hoping that Tag will be happy here.

Tag had wandered around the area for about 10 minutes before actually finding the place. You'd think after living her life in big cities, she'd know her way around one. But, apparently not.
The first thing she saw was Leo, not the fact that it was an animal shelter. Her heart started beating like crazy, and she had no idea what to say. She simply walked up to him and gave him a shy, half-smile.

"You came," Leo greeted, smiling and standing up. "Did you have a successful selling morning?"

"Quite successful, actually. I also worked a couple hours at the bookshop." Tag smiled back at him, glad to see he wasn't mad at her. Or if he was, he at least wasn't showing it.
"So, where are we exactly?"

"Manhattan Animal Shelter," Leo responded, gesturing to the sign hanging over the door. "Wanna help me give some of the dogs a bath?"

Tag's eyes widened and her mouth hung open just a tad. She was stunned.
"Animal shelter?" She said in a mousy voice. Then, she snapped out of it. "I didn't even know Manhattan had an animal shelter! Well, what are we waiting for, let's go!"

Chuckling, Leo opened the door. "Figured you would wanna join me." Once they were inside, the man behind the front desk smiled at them.
"Hello Leo, thanks for coming in today. Who is your friend?"

Tag immediately blushed, but she somehow felt bolder than usual. "I'm Lillian." She replied to the man, a complete stranger. She figured it was because she knew animals were in her near future, and this man was going to lead her to them.
She could hear the barks and yips of the dogs behind the door, and she couldn't help but smile.

"Well thank you for joining us as well, Lillian," the man answered, grabbing a handful of keys and opening up the door. "The tub is ready for you in the yard, Leo."
"Thanks Max. After you, Lillian," he said to Tag with a sly grin as he opened the door for her again to the kennel part.

Once Max was out of ear shot, Tag turned to Leo. "Well, that's my real name!" She said, chuckling.
She was then immediately distracted by the array of dogs before here. There were puppies, senior dogs, big dogs, small dogs, brown dogs, white dogs, and everything in-between. If Tag absolutely had to choose one dog to take home, she'd rather die. She wanted all of them.
"Do we really get to play with them?!"

Leo beamed at her. "yeah! Pick one to give a bath to." He kneeled in front of a cage that contained a small, clearly abused and nearly starved, dirty golden retriever. "Hey there Roxie," he greeted the dog who looked ill, but was wagging her tail excitedly at Leo anyway.
"how's my girl?" Leo opened up her cage and she bolted out, immediately licking Leo's face.

((omg you managed to choose two of the three dog names in my family. Max and Roxie. Roxie is my babyyyy I miss her so much!))
Tag couldn't help but get a tad misty eyed at Leo's interaction with Roxie. She distracted herself by looking around, wondering how she could choose a dog to bathe. For some reason, her eyes landed on a black and tan dachshund who seemed to be smiling at her. She went over to its cage and crouched down to pet it.
"I like this one... What its name?" She asked Leo, her eyes still on the dog in front of her.

((I know!! My doggy was named Roxie too so I knew I had to )) Even though Roxie was several years old, she was small enough for Leo to pick up. "Chip," Leo told her and gestures to the sign over his cage. "all the animals have temporary names." he kissed the top of roxie's head and opened up the door to the backyard and letting her run around as he filled up the tub.

Tag did the same thing with Chip, laughing as she watched his little legs run. He was too adorable!
She followed Leo outside and played with both of the dogs as he got the bath ready.
((Okay, I have to get to bed! I actually have school tomorrow! Don't you hate it when 4-day weekends end? Night, my love!!))

Leo carried three buckets of water to and from the well before he added the soap. "alright Roxie into the tub you go." he picked up Roxie and placed her into the tub and began to scrub her fur. "They are all happier here than in the street," Leo explained to tag, noticing roxie's tail wag. "they are safe and get fed.but it's still sad they don't have real owners."
