Tag waited patiently in her secret room, twisting a piece of hair around her index finger and staring out the window.
Specs had approached her in front of the house earlier that day and asked her to hang out with him - as friends - in the library. So, here she was, Pride & Prejudice in her lap, waiting to be read.

Knocking softly on the door, Specs peeked inside the room and smiled. He waved at Tag as he took the armchair next to her, a bit exhausted from today's selling with the other newsboys. Granted, he didn't win the contest but it was still fun. One day, he'll take Lillian out on a proper date. That is, if they graduated from being friends.
"Been waiting long?"

"No." Tag replied with a smile.
"Besides, I don't mind waiting." She turned toward him, ready to open the book at his request. They had been reading for a few days now, and they were at a very good part of the book. Mr. Darcy was about to propose to Lizzie for the first time. Tag could remember reading it for the first time; she had been shocked. Mr. Darcy did seem infatuated with Lizzie, but she hadn't been expecting a proposal!

"It's not good to make a lady wait," said Specs slyly, grinning at her. He loved it when she read to him and it slowly became the favorite part of his day. He was able to get away from everyone else and have Tag all to himself. It was amazing and he didn't want it to stop anytime soon.
"Ready?"

Tag nodded vigorously, trying not to smile too widely. She opened the book to the marked page and settled into her armchair before beginning to read.
"After a silence of several minutes, he came towards her in an agitated manner, and thus began:
'In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.'"

Specs felt his cheek flush once he heard Tag read the lines from the book. Great. How appropriate was that? He kept his eyes on his shoes, refusing to look at her directly. The past couple days were incredible and he loved spending every minute he could with Tag. He wanted to keep being "just friends" but with the way things were going, he couldn't keep it to himself any longer.

"He concluded with representing to her the strength of that attachment which, in spite of all his endeavours, he had found impossible to conquer; and with expressing his hope that it would now be rewarded by her acceptance of his hand."
Tag looked over the top of the book at Specs to see his reaction. She had gasped out loud the first time she'd read that part.

Specs gasped in time with Tag's, surprisingly very interested in this part of the book. He wasn't going to lie, she was captivating. Or, the book was captivating.

Tag continued to read, portraying Lizzie's rejection with passion in her voice.
When she finished the chapter, she set the book down, her finger still keeping her place. "What did you think of that?"

"Not as bad as I thought it would be," said Specs, grinning. "You're one hell of a reader! I mean, you're read so well."

Tag blushed, biting back a smile.
"Oh, well, thank you." Reading was something Tag prided herself in being able to do well, and she was glad a third party recognized it. Especially since that third party was Specs.
"Shall I read more? Or would you rather just...talk?"

"Let's save it for another time. That was already pretty exciting enough," said Specs, chuckling softly. If the guys knew he was here listening to some girly book, he wouldn't hear the end of it. Then again, it was Tag. He'd bend over backwards for her.
"How are you today?"

"Oh, I'm lovely, thank you." Tag replied with a huge smile.
"Yourself? I heard about some competition between the boys today...? How'd you do?"

"Yeahhh... that was, um, interesting," said Specs, running his fingers through his hair. "Just another one of those random games the boys wanted to do, y'know, whoever can sell the most papers? You should've heard the headlines we were shouting. Then Rae came outta nowhere and decided that girls were so much better 'cause they have... well, assets."
