She took the stack and had to adjust her stance--she hadn't realized they were so heavy! Cradling them under one arm, she flipped through the top one and found a likely headline--'Kitchen Fire at Albright Estate Quickly Brought Under Control.'
"ALBRIGHT ESTATE BURNS TO THE GROUND, FAMILY FEUD MAY HAVE BEEN THE MOTIVE!"
The 'improvement' got her a decent number of customers. She smiled modestly at Risk. "Everyone's always interested if you drop an important name or two. Besides, everyone likes a redhead."

Risk looked at her in surprise. "Maybe you should sell my papers from now on," he muttered, smirking. "Are you sure you're not a newsie?"

"Alas, I'm sure. We could've had a great partnership ahead of us." She sold a few more papers. "Maybe I should drop out of school, run away like Clara and Sebastian, and move into the lodging house!" The scary part was that she sounded like she was actually considering it.
((And she just recited the plot of every bad fanfic ever. ^_^))

"True," she admitted with a theatrical sigh. "And I'd miss the girls at school. And the dining-hall food. And honestly, these things are heavy and I'm becoming quite restless. But it was a nice thought for a minute there."

"Want me to hold 'em?" asked Risk, extending his hand. He was going to wait until talking to Wraith about Tara but he figured it'd be a nice surprise for the both of them to see each other. After a couple of minutes with her, she didn't look like much trouble... except for at school, maybe.
"Look, actually... I think I may know a Wraith."

At that, Tara dropped the papers. They began to scatter in the wind, and she yelped and scurried around, calling out, "Sorry!" at various intervals as she gathered them up. At last, she handed them back to him, slightly breathless. "Really!?"

"Whoa, okay, calm down!" muttered Risk, trying to grab as many papers as he can. Newsie or not, he still had to pay for them!

She nodded. "I went and met a boy named Moonshine, and he was very nice, but he'd just moved in. And then we met a boy named Jack, and he seemed rather suspicious and didn't want to tell me anything. So I left," she admitted. "The neighborhood made me a bit nervous."

"There's a chance that Wraith might be there," he said before shouting another headline. Once his papers were gone, he turned to Tara once again. "I mean, if you're uncomfortable, you don't have to come with me."

She considered. "Well, I don't have my father's sword cane today, but I'm sure you'll protect me from harm." She looked sadly down at her net, where the butterfly still fluttered helplessly. "You got lucky today. Come 'round Miss Porter's again if you dare," she said, and released the butterfly, sticking the net under her arm. "Let's go!"

She chuckled. "With who, my teachers? My parents? They'll never know I've even spoken to a newsie," she promised, eyeing the house eagerly. "You really think she's here?"

She nodded and ran ahead of him, waiting on the front porch of the lodging house. Remembering her adventure up to the roof with Moonshine, she looked up...and stared. And backed up, and stared some more. A couple of very familiar siblings were sitting on the roof at this very moment.
She turned to Risk, wide-eyed, and motioned frantically.
