Tyler "Moonshine" McGowan walked into the House whistling. He scratched behind his ear, looking around a minute, shifting his bag up on his shoulder before sauntering to the desk and opening the ledger.
((So, here's my new guy! Also, I'm still super intimidated to join in on threads, because I've got no idea what's going on. If anybody as an open threads or story lines that would be easy for either Moonshine or Script to stroll in on, let me know!))

Tara approached the lodging house very tentatively. She was pretty sure there was some unspoken law against her being in this neighborhood. In fact, she was surprised she hadn't gotten jumped yet. That was why she was carrying her father's cane, after all. It was a sword cane. It was very dashing.
She stuck her head in the door and saw some guy bent over a giant book. "Hello! Do you live here?"

Moonshine finished scrawling his name in the ledger before turning towards the voice. He had farm-boy rugged looks and a Southern drawl to match. "Well, I just signed in, so I guess I do now. What d'ya need, darlin'?" He leaned back against the desk, casually.

"I'm looking for someone...I don't even really know if she's here, it's just a rumor...but I doubt she's using her real name." She came up beside him to frown at the ledger, then remembered her manners and smiled brightly. "I'm Tara Fields! Pleased to meet you." She held out her hand.

Moonshine arched his brow at her, but shook her hand. "Tyler McGowan. Or Moonshine. Whichever you prefer." He let go of her hand, then leaned back against the desk again. "Dunno if I can help ya, sugar. I'm new."

"I figured. I'm new, too! I mean, I don't live here, of course...I'm just visiting the neighborhood..." She waved her cane vaguely at the door, and looked around. "I wonder if anyone else is home."

Moonshine blinked at her, wondering what a girl like her is doing in the neighborhood...with a cane. "I couldn't even begin ta tell ya, sugar. I was wonderin' the same myself. Wanted to make sure there's room for me and all that."

"Well, maybe we should explore together! It looks nice. Kind of homey, really." She laughed a bit nervously and went to peer through the nearest doorway. "Hmm, there's a lounge. Fireplace and everything. So, uh...what brings you up north?" she asked cheerfully, noting his accent.

He chuckled, a little amused at her. "Sure, explorin' sounds like a plan." He followed her along, looking around. "What brings me here? Uh, well, just lookin' for a change of scenery, I guess." He looked at her sidelong. "What are you doin' here?"

"Looking for someone, like I told you! She's an old friend." She led the way into the lounge. It really was nicer than she'd expected. "I haven't seen her for years, actually. I heard she and her brother might be staying here. To tell you the truth, I'm supposed to be in class right now." She grinned rebelliously.

"Who exactly are you lookin' for? What's so important you felt like ditchin' class for it?" He smirked, but nodded in approval at the surroundings. It looked comfortable enough.

Tara shrugged. "She was a very dear friend. We lived on the same street. But they ran away years ago. I haven't seen them since." She tried the next door. "Oh! A kitchen. I wonder who does the cooking." She considered that for a moment and blushed. "Or, well, I suppose they might do their own cooking..." She whirled on her new friend. "Enough about me! Tell me about your adventures."

Moonshine just sort of blinked at her. This girl was a strange one. "Well, I'm not sure there's much to tell. Got into a scrap a' trouble back home and needed to make myself scarce. Made my way East, then North 'til I ended up here. First time in New York. It's...different."

"Is it? I've been upstate to the country, but never any farther. I'd love to travel, but my parents find it tiresome. My parents," she informed Moonshine, "are the most tiresome people on earth." By now, she was rummaging through the kitchen cabinets. She turned up a sketchy-looking bottle of...something and examined it, raising her eyebrows thoughtfully.

"Your folks sound like loads of fun." Moonshine smirked as he took the bottle from her to examine it. He took of the cap and gave it a sniff. "Cheap whiskey, but it'll do the trick." He took a quick swig and then offered her the bottle.
