Her eyes went as big as saucers. She grinned broadly, boosted herself onto the edge of the counter--skirts and all--and took a swig. Making a face and laughing, she passed it back to him. Well, she'd need all the courage she could get if she was going to face Clara after all this time. Or even Sebastian, for that matter.

"Not bad, sugar. For a girl." He took another swig before capping the bottle loosely and placing it on the counter beside her, moving to lean against it. "So, seriously, what's gal like you doing in a dump like this? I mean, I know you said lookin' for a friend, but how the hell you'd make friends all the way out here?"

"They weren't always out here. We all lived on the Upper West Side, till I was about twelve." She bit her lip and played with one of her curls, considering how much to tell him--but she wasn't really much for keeping secrets, except one. "Things were bad for them at home. Their parents were perfectly respectable in public, of course, but in private...it was different, you know? I never thought they'd run away, though. Clara might have told me, at least." She sighed.

He frowned, never understanding what having bad parents was like, since his were pretty decent. "Sometimes it's hard for people to share those kinda things, ya know, even with their friends." He hoisted himself up, joining her on the counter. "So, how'd ya figure she was here?"

"A boy I ran into one day. Literally." She laughed. "He was selling newspapers in my neighborhood, and he bowled me right over. Ruined my dress! I didn't mind, but he came back to find me later and give me money to replace it. It was really very sweet. We got to talking about all the interesting people who lived in his lodging house, and he mentioned a pair of siblings...he didn't know their real names, but the way he described them..." Or maybe she was just desperate.

Moonshine only arched a brow at her, but allowed her her logic. "Well, if ya think they're here, then they're bound to show up sometime. What do they go by here? If they ran, it only makes sense they'd change their names or go by nicknames."

"Goblin and Wraith, apparently." She smirked a little--she could easily see Sebastian as a goblin, though she had more trouble envisioning her sweet Clara as a ghost. "I didn't see them in the registration book. They must be out selling papers." She suddenly gave him a worried look. "Do you think I'm...odd?"

He couldn't help it, he started laughing, but he had enough sense to give her shoulder a comforting pat. "Darlin', odd ain't always a bad thing. Besides, you're probably in the right place for odd, anyway. This is New York, ain't it." He flashed her a dimpled grin.

"That it is!" She grinned back, somewhat reassured. "Thanks for listening to me ramble on and on. And sharing a drink with me," she added, casting the bottle another suspicious glance. She slid off the counter. "Should we check out the second floor?"
((We should poke someone else to get in here and give them a proper greeting. ^_^))

"Sounds like a plan, sugar." He dropped off the counter and moved to hold the kitchen door open for her. "After you, darlin'."
((Yes, please do! I'm still so lost with the forum-style RP thing, so go ahead and take control. Haha.))

((Aww, you're doing fine so far! You'll get the hang of it.)) "So polite!" she laughed, smiling at him. So far, the lower-class boys she'd met had better manners than the upper-class ones. She started through the door, than remembered. "Forgot my cane!" Running back to the lounge, she grabbed it off the couch, then courtsied and stepped through the open door.

He shook his head, chuckling. "You're a strange one, sugar, I gotta tell ya." He gave her shoulder a playful nudge. "Cute as a button, though." He followed her upstairs, looking around.

She smiled playfully. "Don't think you can get fresh just because I'm friendly. I have a cane!" She brandished it at him. "It's my father's, really, but I thought I should bring it in case some brigand assaulted me. It's not really a problem I've encountered, but one never knows!"
They reached the top of the stairs, and she walked down a hall and opened a door. No one in there now, but various feminine garments lying around. Someone liked nylon stockings.

He laughed fully at that. "Brigand. Ha!" He continued along with her, peeking his head into the room she opened. Moonshine allowed an amused smirk. "Ya know, the fact that this place seems like a co-ed House is making me awful happy."

Tara shook her head and clicked her tongue at this remark, but she was smiling. "I live at a girls' boarding school. It's better than home, but some boys would certainly spice the place up."
