"If you're goin' to soak me, you've got some balls to try," he muttered, his grip still tight on her wrist. He hadn't answered her question mostly because he was stalling. What if Ershey found out? What if she told someone? What if he got fired? What if everyone hated him and literally soaked him? It'd be an epic death.

She could practically see the gears turning in his head. Only problem was, she didn't know if they were gears of fear and uncertainty or anger and violence. But hey, she'd walked that dangerous line since the day she was born.
"If you hurt Ershey--if you get her hurt--then I'll kill you," she said simply. "I told you that before, and it still stands. But otherwise, this stays between us. And you know how you can trust me? 'Cause you know where Jo lives." And he'd seen her with the kid. He couldn't fail to grasp the weight of that statement.

Risk almost told her. He was so close. But he held himself back. He'd have to tell Adri first before he did anything else. Sure, Macbeth was threatening him but it'd be much worse to have all of Adri's friends threaten him at the same time. Risk simply nodded and finally let go of her wrist wordlessly.

She stared at him until she realized he wasn't going to say anything. "Have it your way," she snapped, and made her way down from the roof--and God help anyone who encountered her in the next twenty-four hours, because "stressed" didn't even cover her mood right now.
