"Oh." Beth's smirk returned, this time taking over her whole face. "Oh. You're Tag."
Jo started whimpering. Macbeth sighed, turning to put Sophronia's Secrets back on the shelf. "She wants your nose. I suggest you let her have it, 'cause if she starts screaming and kicking, I'll have to kill you."

Tag quickly crouched down to the little girl's level, tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Yes...I'm Tag. The girl with the stash of romance novels hidden under her bed." She sighed heavily; well, there was no squashing that reputation now.

Jo triumphantly grabbed Tag's nose and let out a squeal of delight. Then immediately started poking the book under Tag's shirt, trying to figure out the nature of this strange deformity.
"You read anything other than this stuff?" Macbeth asked, making the innocent question more of a challenge. She was now scanning the titles scornfully, because of course, Lady Macbeth scoffed at all things romantic. Well, 'romantic' in the lovey-dovey sense, not in the old 'King Arthur and his knights' sense. She rather liked the tales of King Arthur. Everyone died.

Tag gave in and took out the book, showing the little girl. "Yes, I do, actually," Tag replied defensively. "I love Jane Austen and Jane Eyre and Grimm's fairy tales and King Arthur and Robinson Crusoe..."

Beth finally stopped smirking as each title rang a bell in her own personal list of favorites. "We oughta start a bloody book club," she said--completely sarcastic, of course.

Tag looked up at her, mouth slightly agape, eyes wide. "That would be wonderful!"

((Hahaha! <3))
"I wasn't serious!" Macbeth said, aghast, as Jo pushed open The Lord of Scandals and examined it, wide-eyed. Beth turned around and crossed her arms, though she had to work kind of hard to maintain a glare, because she was on the verge of laughing. "You letting my two-year-old niece read naughty books?"

Tag shook her head to get out of her prospective book club daze and snatched the book from the girl's hand. "Sorry," she mumbled, standing back up.
"No, but why not? I mean, I'm sure Specs would join! He's my boyfriend. He loves reading, too! And David, he loves to read, as well. We could read a book every month and then just go to Tibby's or something and talk about it. Wouldn't that be marvelous?!"

Macbeth couldn't help but stare. She was so...British. Dad would've loved her. He would've been all, "Oh, Elizabeth, why can't you bring home more cultured, well-mannered girls like that?" Not that she'd ever brought any friends home at all.
"Oh yeah, it'd be just mah-vel-ous," she snapped, "'cept for the part where I slaughtered everyone and got stuck pulling a double shift to mop up the blood." She lifted Jo onto her shoulder before she could assault any more people or books. "I work at Tibby's," she admitted. "Cooking."

Tag snapped her head back at the graphic description and the way she had mimicked Tag's words. She blinked, frozen in her spot.
"...Oh." Well, she was going to start a book club, anyways.

Macbeth felt triumphant, annoyed, and vaguely guilty all at once for reducing Tag to monosyllables. "So maybe I'll see you there sometime. Having your book club," she said in an ambiguous tone that really might've been either friendly or menacing. Jo poked her in the nose and whined at her. "What, you hungry already, kid? Fine, we'll get outta here." She sighed and peered wistfully around the bookcase to her own aisle, where all those tempting novels were still scattered on the floor.

Tag quickly took a step toward the girl, biting her lip.
"Er...what's your name, again?"

"Lady Macbeth," she replied, having a feeling Tag would get the reference. "Leave off the 'Lady' part." She set about re-shelving the books one-handed, supporting Jo with her other arm. Her hand fell on The Castle of Otranto, and she slid it under her arm, determined to check out something.

Tag mustered up all the manners that had been ingrained in her, shooting Macbeth a small, friendly smile. "Nice to meet you, Macbeth." Was it, though? The girl was pretty cranky.

"Oh, really?" Macbeth finished putting books away, except for the aforementioned Gothic novel, and gave Tag one last smirk before heading for the front desk with her niece and her book. She slammed the book on the desk and produced her library card, wishing she could get the British girl's stupid suggestion out of her head. It was just...she could actually be civil when she was discussing books. She'd proved that with Sapphy.
