"Spot Conlon," Raven said. If Kathryn had been hanging out with newsises all that much she would have caught a glimpse of Spot or had heard them talk about him, "We had been together for years...well on and off. We're sort of known for our volatility." She smirked.

"He's the leader of Brooklyn, right? Or, was..." She furrowed her brow, finding the whole situation pretty interesting. Who knew she'd ever be knowledgeable about the newsie world - or even care, for that matter?

"Yeah...he sounds like it..." Kathryn replied, biting her lip. "He obviously has something good about him, though...I mean, you wouldn't have been with him for years if there wasn't."

"Well yeah, course there were. For a start he was the only man I knew I could count on. I trusted him," Raven said with a sigh, "sometimes he could be sweet. I could talk to him to work a problem out and Spot always knew the solution. After we'd scream at each other for hours I always knew we'd make up and he'd hug me like everything was fine...because it was." She smiled slightly.

"So...why did he leave?" Kathryn's brow was furrowed deeply as she studied Raven, hoping she wasn't stepping over some line.

"He got scared. Spot doesn't do scared very well. We were getting married. He was actually committing to me in a way he never had before...he couldn't handle it." She sighed heavily.

Kathryn sat there, mouth agape, brow furrowed even deeper than it had been just moments ago. "So, he just ran away? Like a coward?"

"Yep," Raven said. Sean wrinkled up his face and started crying, Raven lifted him up onto her shoulder and stood up to rock him back and forth.

Kathryn shook her head slowly, in disbelief and judgement. She stayed quiet, allowing Raven to soothe Sean.

When Sean had finally settled down Raven sat back down. "He was always like though. He never ran before...but completely giving himself over to someone else was always a huge problem for him."

"Probably because of his parents, some issues left over from when he was a kid. I got a shitload of them too." Raven held Sean against her chest, he liked to watch everything that was happening around him. She clasped her hands and rested them on her sons belly. He happily clapped his hands.
