"Oh, all girls do have it," he quickly agreed, "but the girlfriend voice is a bit different when compared to the girlfriend voice. There's a hint of annoyance, maybe even a touch of neediness. All girls nag, but only girlfriends do it so that their requests hit you in the back of your spine."
He finished up his drink and held up his empty glass, ordering another. "That being said, you kinda miss it when it's gone."

Risk smirked. "How long has it been? Since you've been with a girl?"
He realized that his glass was empty as well and nodded at the bartender to refill it. "I'll definitely let you know when I hear that voice. You'll be the first to know."

"Almost two years," he said quietly. He stared at his glass for a moment before taking a long drink. "Two years in February."
"You better tell me the second you hear it," he said, trying to change the subject again. "I promise, I won't come back with any 'I told you so's."

"Oh, I'll let you know," laughed Risk, taking a sip from his now full glass of whiskey.
"She must've been somethin' if you're still thinkin' about her," said Risk, noting Nate's change in behavior.

"Oh, she was... She was somethin', all right." Not just 'something,' but more like 'everything.' The more Nate thought about her, the more he thought about how things could've been different, if there was anything he could've changed or done that would've altered the outcome of their relationship.
With each thought came another memory forcing itself back into his head from deep withing the closed-off depths of his brain. No matter how hard he tried, it was impossible to forget her. Deep down, he knew that there wasn't much he could've done differently to spare them from their untimely end. April was always such a free spirit, and that's what he loved about her.
Closing his eyes, he tilted his head back and polished off the rest of his drink. Another one down the hatch.

Risk watched Nate's facial expressions change. He could basically track what he was thinking. He still wasn't over this girl and secretly wanted her back.
"Next one's on me," he said reassuringly, waving over the bartender.

Risk shrugged, watching as the bartender refilled Nate's glass. "It's nothin'... let's just wait until you really need help with something."
