He sighed, brushing a hand over her hair. "Dunno yet. I'm going to the recruiting office tomorrow to enlist. They'll probably let me know then."

She nodded then lifted her head to look at him. "And you're telling Billy tomorrow, too?" He was in for even more tears then.

"Yeah," she whispered, a whole new batch of tears pooling in her eyes. In all the years they'd been together, they had rarely spent any time apart. Rose didn't know what she would do with herself. It would be weird to sleep alone.

"Shh, we'll be okay, baby. Everything's gonna be alright..." He kissed her lips, brushing his thumb across her cheek. "It'll be alright..." His insides ached with the thought of leaving them, but what could he do. He didn't have a choice, not really.

She believed him, for when had he ever lied to her? The only thing that popped into her mind was the numerous times he assured her it was okay that they'd only had one child. Not for lack of trying, of course, but apparently it wasn't in their cards to have a lot of children like Tyler had wanted.
"Can we just go up to bed?" she asked, wiping at a tear.

He nodded and stood up, he picked her up, holding her in his arms. He kissed her as he took her upstairs, laying her on the bed -- their bed.

She got up to change out of her clothes, heading to the closet. She returned in one of Tyler's shirts, finding them the most comfortable to sleep in. She sat on the bed, bringing her knees up to her chest and hugging them.

He stripped down to his shorts, crawling into bed and holding his arms out for her. "Come 'ere, Rosie. Lemme hold you."

She crawled over to him, attaching herself to his chest. She never wanted to let go.

He rubbed her back gently. "I won't be gone long. All the news reports are sayin' that if the US joins, the war'll be over in less than a year."

Rose simply nodded, knowing that if she said anything, she would just start crying again. She wanted to get all her crying done now, though, while Tyler was still here to wipe her tears away.

The dam broke again, but she was pretty sure Tyler didn't really mind. She clung to him, her tears falling from her face and spilling onto his chest.

He cradled her against him, rocking her and murmuring into her hair. "Shh...it's okay, baby...I'm here...I ain't gone yet..."
