Lillian stood there. Frozen. He hadn't given her a chance to explain that she was ultimately glad he hadn't stopped asking her out. Because her first impression of him had been wrong. He wasn't this cocky, Southern high school quarterback. Well, not all of him was. He was actually a sweet, caring, protective, sexy man. Who had jut walked out on her. And called her a liar and a heartless bitch. What was going on?

Tyler paced the hallway, drunk and angry and wanting to punch a wall. So he did. And hit a stud. And cried out, clutching his hand to him as his knuckles bled. He was pretty sure he just broke his hand. Perfect.

The loud thud broke her daze, and she immediately went to the door, opening it. "What happened?" she asked, almost breathless.

"Nothing!" He growled at her, but his vision was blurring from the pain in his hand and he had to lean back against the wall he just punched, clutching his hand to his chest.

She walked over to him, taking his hand in hers. "Tyler, what did you do?" she asked, frowning.

He moved to yank his hand away from her, then groaned loudly, gritting his teeth. "Fuck!"

She looked up at him, eyes wide. "Just calm down," she said, her voice soothing. "I'm going to call an ambulance."

"I don't need a fuckin' ambulance, Lillian. I just need somebody to drive me to the hospital." He frowned, fishing his cell phone out. "I'm gonna call Alec. Go back inside."

She sighed, taking his cell phone out of his hand. "I'll do it, I'm right here," she said, going inside and grabbing her phone, wallet, and keys. She didn't even bother changing. "Come on, let's go."

He frowned, but nodded. He didn't really have a choice. He needed to get his hand looked at.

The car ride to the hospital was pretty silent. Lillian knew she needed to explain, to tell him he was wrong. She wasn't a liar, and she definitely wasn't heartless. But now was not the time.

Tyler glowered all the way there, hissing from the pain every time he shifted even a little bit. When they got to the emergency room, he was taken for x-rays, then put in a room to wait, sitting on the examining table.

The nurse came to get Lillian in the waiting room, showing her where to go. She opened the door slowly, standing in the doorway for a second before walking in and closing the door behind her.

He only glanced at her, frowning. "Thanks. For driving."

"Welcome," she said softly. "Are you...in a lot of pain?"
