Macbeth couldn't explain, not even to Risk, how it felt to be walking through the streets of her old neighborhood again--a part of the city where she hadn't set foot since she was fourteen years old. So she didn't try. She just walked along beside him and took it all in: the crumbling tenements, the beggars and pickpockets, the maze of sinister alleyways. She kept a hand on one of her knives out of habit, but she wasn't afraid. It was just that she kept expecting Ada or Scamp or even her mother to walk around a corner and greet her.
"Did you let Eastman know we're coming?" she murmured to keep the ghosts at bay. "I mean, don't they kinda know that you sold 'em out and took off just a few years back?" They really should have discussed this beforehand, but she'd been too busy giving Tristan extremely detailed instructions on how to care for Jo. And kissing her niece about twenty times. And then forcing herself to walk away.

"I sent word," replied Risk grimly. "He'd hear about it soon enough. I mean, I did screw up but that doesn't mean I wasn't good when I was in the gang."
Risk always prided himself in being a loyal gang member -- one that was always there for the crew. Then again, coming back to ghosts from his past wasn't exactly on his game plan when he decided to move back to Manhattan. He just hoped the people he knew would still be there to offer some form of 'protection'.
"C'mon, we're almost near," said Risk as he glanced at the alleyway and spotted an old, ratty door that he knew too well.

Beth gave him a rather ambiguous look. "You get me killed, you're raising my kid." She didn't even explore the very real possibility that they would both get themselves killed. Instead, she just followed him down the alley and waited for him to proceed.
((Maybe Eastman's busy at first and sends Sammie to show them around? ^_^ Then we can play for a while before we need Rae.))

"Compared to the usual, I know what I'm doing, Beth," said Risk reassuringly as he knocked on the door. It was silent for a couple seconds as Risk stared at the door, wondering whether he'd chose the wrong one. Before he knew it, the door flung open and the next thing he knew, there was a knife pressed to his neck. "I don't know you. Who're you?" muttered a girl with flashing eyes. She glanced over at Beth, her other hand ready to grab the other knife she was hiding. ((Ok! )

Beth's own blade was out in half a second. Ready to pounce if the girl moved another inch, she exercised every single ounce of control to make herself answer calmly. "He used to work for Eastman. I'm a new recruit. So back the fuck off."

"You're lying," she replied, glancing at the both of them. She stayed completely still as she nodded at Risk. "How'd you know this place?"
"Alec, I went by Alec back then," said Risk, trying his best not to show any hint of nervousness or fear. Eastman always knew how to protect himself. He should've known better. Then again, he was out of practice. "How long you been here? You know Myles? Drew? How about the Sulley incident?"
Once Sammie heard Sulley, she frowned and finally inched back. "That's you? What, you're here to see Eastman now?"

It bloody well figured that Monk Eastman would use a watchdog who could detect lies. The girl almost reminded Beth of Sentry, Archer Klein's fierce second-in-command, and if there was any lesson to be learned from Sentry, it was respect.
"We're here to request an audience," she said carefully, inching forward to stand beside Risk. "I used to live around here. Elizabeth Rowlands. I know the Points inside-out. Me and Alec are here on business, and we ain't gonna try nothing." None of that was technically untrue. "So if you could just..." Her eyes never left the knife at Risk's throat. The instinct to smash the girl to the ground for daring to hold it there was almost overpowering.

((I love Beth )) "Give me your knife and I'll let you in," said Sammie as she glared at Macbeth, refusing to move a muscle to protect the gang. She'd been Eastman's second in command since the day they'd found her at the Refuge. She would much rather be on the side where she knew she'd survive. Even if it meant stepping over people along the way.

((Yeeah, she gets very very protective. ^_^ <3))
Beth deftly flipped the knife around and handed it over, handle-first, without a second thought. Concealed in her dress and shoes and endless layers of petticoats were half a dozen more.

Sammie narrowed her eyes at Beth, taking the knife and immediately pocketing it. "Follow me," she finally replied, pulling her knife back from Risk's neck as she turned to walk inside.
When Sammie turned around, Risk breathed a relieved sigh, obediently following her close behind. He knew that his mouth got away with him sometimes. This was definitely one of those situations where he knew when to keep his mouth shut.

Macbeth walked in beside Risk. Right beside him. And then reached out and seized his hand almost violently. Let him think she was scared, or that she was afraid he'd do something reckless and felt the need to restrain him, or that she was just being a friend and offering a pathetic kind of comfort. She didn't give a damn what he thought; they were in this together. Whatever dangers arose, they were facing them together. And she wanted him to know it.

Risk glanced over at Macbeth in surprise once he felt her reach for his hand. His frows burrowed in confusion then once he noticed that she could be possibly scared, worried or just out of her element (although he couldn't imagine that at all happening in Five Points), his face softened as he nodded at her reassuringly. He gently squeezed her hand as they followed Sammie down a long hallway. Opening a set of doors, the three were greeted by the hustle and bustle of the other gang members. They grew quiet once they saw Sammie and looked at Risk and Macbeth in confusion. Sammie stayed quiet and simply stared back at them as she led them towards a corridor and towards a flight of stairs. "Eastman," muttered Sammie against another door once they reached the top of the stairs. ((Wanna play him? )

((I can try! I'm bad at villains. )) The door opened to reveal a big, imposing man who Macbeth assumed to be Monk Eastman. The moment he saw Risk, his eyebrows went up. "Alec. It's been a while." He ignored Beth for the moment, but opened the door wider, jerking his head to indicate that they should all come in.

"Yes," managed Risk as he stepped inside, still holding onto Macbeth's hand. Sammie closed the door behind her and waited outside.
"I brought my friend," he finally said, once they were alone with Eastman. "To join. She's good with blades, has a sharp tongue and grew up right here in Five Points. I didn't want to come back here empty handed."

"I'm rather shocked that you wanted to come back here at all," Eastman said dangerously, standing right in front of him--and Beth, since she was still clinging to his hand, and not because she was concerned for her own safety. "You'll have to explain to me why you thought you'd be able to walk back in here without any consequences."
((I might need a refresher on exactly how he betrayed them...and they don't know he's a cop, right?))
