Zippy laughed, selling the last of her papers as they reached Central Park. "What a dream come true that would be!"
Stepping onto the park made her nervous. It was more likely that she would run into her ex, Joseph, and his colleagues in Central Park. But she couldn't live in fear. Plus, she really wanted to see the polar bears.

David saw a nervous look cross her face and he put a hand on her arm, carefully. "Hey...you okay?"

Zippy looked at David, surprised that he noticed something was wrong. Most people never would. "Yeah, I'm okay. Central Park is kinda a ...central place, you know?" She shrugged, and took his hand. "So what made you so angry at Jack?" She asked, changing the subject.

He blinked when she grabbed his hand, but he swallowed down the jitters and linked his fingers with hers. "He wasn't altogether nice when he dumped Sarah. She was real torn up about it. Wanted me to stand up to him." He blushed. "Didn't turn out so well."

"Oh," Zippy responded. "Yikes. that's unfortunate. It's unfair you had to choose between your friend and your sister," David was good company, but Zippy was starting to realize how...innocent he was.
Which made her very aware of how...experienced she was. Hopefully her past wouldn't come up.

He shrugged. "Sarah's...kind of high-maintenance. I never realized how much until I made a total fool of myself in front of all the guys." He didn't let go of her hand, even when he stepped up to the ticket booth and paid for their entry into the zoo.

"I'm sure they will forgive you," Zippy replied. "She is your sister after all. If my brother Eli was still around, I'd expect him to do the same thing," she said, letting go of his hand and rushing to the seal lions as soon as they entered the gate, giggling as she heard them bark.

He grinned as he watched her, walking faster to catch up, then leaning against the railing beside her. She was so cute when she was excited. "Pretty cool, huh?"

"They are GREAT!" She watched them swim around, laughing. "What fantastic creatures!" She stared at them for a moment before reaching into her bag and pulling out a paper and pencil, beginning to sketch the nearest one, yelping on a rock.

He blinked, then leaned in a little closer to watch her. "Wow, you're really good at that." He was genuinely impressed.

"Thanks," She muttered, shrugging. She was actually doing a rather poor job, since she was doing it so fast. She glanced up at him.
"What animal would you like to see next?" One of the sea lions rolled off a rock into their pool, making Zippy smile. They seemed so happy!

He took her hand again, because her smile made him feel brave. "Whatever you want. I hear the polar bears are kinda cool."

"Oh my gosh, yes!" She put her sketchbook safely back into her bag. "I love the animals, but I really like the zoos remind me of my freedom."
Despite how alone and battered she was, she DID have her freedom again. And it felt damn good. She squeezed David's hand, feeling safe.

David smiled over at her, walking with her over to the polar bears. He stood close to her as they looked through the glass enclosure. But her statement made him curious. "When were you not free?"

Zippy pressed her face up to the glass. "So magnificient." She continued staring at the polar bear, who was swimming around. "I felt pretty trapped when I was in foster care a few years ago. But I guess not really because I was able to run away. Holy cow, look at the size of his paw!"
