David sat a booth in Tibby's, idly swirling his straw in his drink, frowning at it. He'd sold today, because he didn't feel like going to school, and hadn't realized how rusty he was at hawking headlines. He also hadn't anticipated the influx of new Manhattan newsies, and all his usual spots were claimed by other people.
He'd been away too long.

Zippy rushed into Tibby's, holding her neck and scanning the floor. WHERE WAS IT, it HAD to be here!
"Heya Zip, ya need a menu?" One of the waiters asked, and Zippy shook her head. She didn't have time to eat today, or the money. She glanced to the corner table where she had eaten dinner last night, and hurried over to it. She recognized the boy as another fellow newsie, but couldn't quite place his name.
She touched her hand to her neck again, checking again that the necklace was long gone. "Err...hi. Do you...mind if I check under your table for my necklace?" She asked him sadly yet frantically.

David blinked up at her, yanked out of his reverie rather abruptly. "Uh, yeah, sure." He slid out of the booth, then figured he might as well help her since she looked kind of desperate. He scrounged around, poking in the seat cushion, then finding a chain, giving it a pull. "This it?" He held his find out for her.

Zippy blinked at him as he dangled her necklace in front of her. "I could kiss you" She replied, reaching for it and letting relief take over her. "This goddamn latch is old and broken. I need a new chain for it." She shook her head, wishing she had the money to fix her late mother's Star of David necklace.
"Thank you." She said to him softly, fastening it around her neck.

David blushed to his ears, clearing his throat. "Uh, yeah, no problem. Welcome." He licked his lips, sticking his hand out at her. "David."

"Oh. Jacobs, right? I heard about you, you helped Jack with the strike." Zippy smiled at him, wondering why she hadn't seen him around lately. "People call me Zippy."

He winced at the mention of Jack, just a little, but nodded. "Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you, Zippy. You, uh, wanna sit down?" He gestured at the booth, sliding back into his seat. "I haven't ordered yet, if you wanna eat."

"Oh. Umm...You aren't waiting for anyone?" Zippy still had some papers from the morning she couldn't sell, and placed them on the table, sitting down across from him.

He shook his head. "I don't really talk to many people people from the House. Usually sell on my own." He handed her his extra menu.

"Me too," Zippy nodded in agreement, although she was positive it was for different reasons. "In the case...are you sure its okay if I join you? If you would rather be alone, I understand."

"No, you can stay." He answered maybe a smidge too quickly, which made him blush. "I mean, ya know...if you want to."

Zip blushed a little too, hiding her face in the menu. "Aren't you the guy with that cute kid brother?"

David smirked. "Les? Well, I dunno about cute. You wouldn't think he was so cute if you had to live with him." When the waiter came over, he ordered a corned beef sandwich, then folded his hands on the table, looking over at her. "How come I've never seen you around?"

Zippy ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup and raised her eyebrow at him. "How come I never see YOU around?"

David blushed before he could stop himself. "Uh, well...me and Jack...don't exactly talk anymore..."
