Wraith followed quickly and gracefully, as always. She grinned to herself, suddenly remembering Fire's previous suggestion that she join the circus. "Huh? Oh...I don't know...I don't go there much, but I know a lot of the newsies do." She led the way down toward the ground after casting a quick look at Fire, hoping she'd remember that Nevada was not a newsie anymore, and lived in Brooklyn, for that matter.

"Well, I don't know too many of them anyway, so I suppose it won't really matter, will it?" She asked playfully before finally continuing her journey down the fire escape to the street. She couldn't help but take notice of the way that Wraith had looked at her just then. She wasn't entirely sure what it had meant, but she couldn't really say that she was all too eager to find out.
"Besides," she quickly added after a brief pause, "I wouldn't really be paying too much attention to them, even if I did." This slight confession made her blush a little bit and she quickly lowered her head, hoping that the other girl didn't notice.

Wraith wasn't sure how to take that, but it made her blush too, and then the two of them were walking down the street together, all blushing and awkward. And Wraith could definitely think of worse things. "S-so, um...what have you been up to? Just kind of hiding out? Nothing wrong with that," she added quickly. She ought to know.

"That, umm, that basically sums it up, yes," she answered with a nod. She slowly wrung her hands together before turning her head to catch a glimpse of the other girl. "I didn't go to Brooklyn, if that's what you're wondering. I haven't been there in almost two months."
She shrugged her shoulders and let out a small sigh. "I went to Midtown. Did a lot of walking and a lot of thinking. At the end of the day, all my thoughts ended up being the same though, so that's when I knew I had to come back."

She nodded and played idly with some coins in her pocket. It wasn't like her to pry, but her curiosity in this case was too much to bear. "What were they about? Your thoughts?" she asked softly.

You, Fire thought to herself. Of course, she couldn't actually say that to her! Not yet, anyway. "Priorities," she explained. "Changes. Priorities. Basically, I realized a few things while I was gone." She paused and reached her hand up, carefully brushing the hair from her eyes.
"I learned that I need to let things go in order to make room for new ones. Being stuck in one place isn't going to get me anywhere."

"It's a good lesson," she said with a half-smile. She had cleared away her own past more...forcefully than most people. The problem was that ever since, she'd had trouble finding anything to replace it with. "I'm actually excited for this," she admitted as they turned onto the street where Tibby's stood. "Haven't had a good meal in a while." She had a sudden wild craving for one of Script's brownies, but squelched it.
((Bedtime for me! 'Night!))

"That makes two of us. I can't remember the last time I ate something decent," Fire added, her hand accidentally brushing against Wraith's as the approached the restaurant.
"Oh, I'm sorry!" She apologized quickly, her cheeks hot as she reached for the door.
((night! <3))

((They are so damn cute. ^_^))
"It's okay!" Wraith said quickly with a nervous laugh. Her heart had just done somersaults. Suddenly she wondered how she was going to make it through even something as simple as dinner without doing something stupid. She was really attracted to this girl. Really attracted.
She followed Fire into the restaurant, and a cheerful waiter waved them over to a free table. So far, she didn't see any familiar faces, so that was something, at least.

((I know, omg, I love them!))
Fire's eyes quickly scanned the restaurant for any remotely familiar faces while they followed the waiter to their table. So far, so good, she thought to herself as she sat down in one of the empty chairs and reached for her menu. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, after all!
"What do you suggest?" she asked softly, her eyes briefly peeking over the menu to look across the table at the other girl.

She scanned the menu, trying to avoid looking at Fire for a while; she was afraid of blushing, stuttering, and making a general fool of herself. "I, uh...I know it's not really a dinner, but I'm tempted by the peach pie. Chicken soup's really good too, though..."

"Hmmm..." She said thoughtfully, her eyes scanning the menu again. She chewed on her lower lip, briefly glancing over the menu at Wraith again before immediately averting her eyes so they were focused on the menu again. Roast beef, 15 cents. Knockwurst, 10 cents. She continued to read through the list of food and their prices, even if it was only to keep herself relaxed.
Sarsaparilla.... Wait, why was the first 'r' in that word silent, anyway? Oh, to hell if she knew.
"I think I'll get the chicken soup," she finally decided. She closed the menu and neatly set it down on the tabletop. There was no hiding the shade of her face, now.

((Sarsaparilla, as a word, confuses me SO MUCH.))
"Good choice," Wraith said cheerfully, putting her menu down too...and then they were looking right into each other's faces. Oh, dear. She chewed her lip and drummed her fingers on the table. This was ridiculous. They were friends. They'd gotten so comfortable with each other, chatted back and forth so easily during those long nights on the rooftop, but now that they were out in public, having dinner...
She had absolutely no idea what to say.
((We should get Ershey in on this at some point--she's a waitress at Tibby's. Even more awkwardness! ;D))

((haha, right? The first time I ever saw it, I was like "wait, wtf is that?" but it is SO delicious, so I can forgive its crazy spelling
And, yesss! I love awkwardness!))
Fire's eyes locked with Wraith's briefly, but it was still long enough for her to get almost completely caught up in their color. She couldn't believe she hadn't noticed them until now, especially they way they complimented her blonde hair. Then again, she had been so caught up remembering the past that she never really took the time to look at what was right in front of her.
A smile slowly came to her face, but she soon remembered where she was and immediately looked away. Quietly, she twisted one of her curls around her index finger.
"Did you like the chocolates?" she finally asked, finally remembering the chocolates that she and Tara had purchased for her over a month ago.

((Haha, we should finish the thread with the chocolates sometime.))
"Love them, actually," Wraith said with an embarrassed smile. "I, uh...actually got a whole box of them a while back...a friend left them on the desk for me." She hadn't seen Tara in ages. Tara was always with Jack these days. Wraith had heard about her debutante ball but knew full well she couldn't make an appearance; runaways should generally avoid showing up four years later in the homes of their parents' friends.
"What about you?" she asked Fire shyly, and it was amazing how quickly one redhead gave way to another in her mind. Letting go was a lot easier when you had something new to grab onto.
