Firecracker carefully climbed up the fire escape to the empty rooftop. She climbed up over the ledge and let herself slide onto the flat surface of the rooftop. It had been a few weeks, hell maybe even almost a month, since she had been up there last. She didn't mind though, she was fairly certain that no one missed her in her absence.
She chewed lightly on her lower lip, her head still spinning with countless thoughts. She had thought that maybe taking some time away from the neighborhood would to her some good, that maybe she would be able to sort herself out and finally be able to toss aside her burdens from the past several years.
However, this proved not to be the case. The longer she stayed away, the more she missed HER. She hated to admit it, but she missed the blonde girl that literally climbed into her life unexpectedly. She sighed and shook her head. Don't be silly... she mentally scolded herself. She had been gone for so long that there wasn't a doubt in her mind that the other girl had moved on. She had to have.... Right?

((Awww! <3))
Wraith told herself she came up to the roof every evening to take a break from Sebastian and his eternal angst. Or to sort through all her thoughts and worries until she could learn to relax. Or just to enjoy the view.
Not because she was still mooning over the gorgeous redhead who barely touched her life before vanishing just like Kennedy. It was almost funny when you thought about. Wraith's one famous talent was pulling vanishing acts, and she seemed to attract vanishing girls. Not that she'd ever attracted Fire. Fire was in love with Nevada. Fire didn't really know who Wraith was, all the things she'd done. Oh, and also, Fire had split without a word and was probably never coming back.
She reached the rooftop, froze in her tracks, and stared. Am I hallucinating now?

"You're not up here, are you?" Fire asked, seemingly to herself. In all honestly, she was hoping that Wraith was up there hiding, it seemed to be one of her biggest talents, after all. She sighed and swept a piece of her hair back behind her ear before letting her arms drop to her sides. "Who am I kidding? Of course you're not..."
Maybe coming back here was a mistake.
Deciding that maybe it was time to go, she took a step closer to the ledge where the fire escape was located. "Listen, I'm.... I'm sorry," she apologized, on the off chance that Wraith did happen to be up there.

Wraith popped up over the top of the ladder, her eyes wide with astonishment. "I...I'm...who are you talking...Fire?" she finally squeaked out.

Fire froze, her cheeks growing hot when the other girl popped up in front of her. "Wraith!!" She responded almost a little too excitedly. "I, umm, wow... I wasn't expecting you to actually be here! I wanted you to be, of course, but.... well... Oh, it doesn't matter."
Embarrassed, she quickly looked away. So much for the explanation she had practiced in her head for what seemed like hours...

"You...you were talking to me?" Wraith scrambled up on the roof and hurried over to her, a slow, incredulous smile spreading over her face, though her eyes were actually a bit misty. She had a very silly urge to hug Fire. It was silly, right? "Where've you been? I, uh...I've missed you."

"Yeah... I was talking to you," she confessed shyly, her eyes quickly fixing on her shoes. "I'm really sorry for leaving. I, umm, I... it was stupid." She paused and exhaled slowly before finally forcing herself to look back up at the other girl. "I thought I had to get away and gather my thoughts. As it turned out, I didn't need that at all."
She swallowed hard and watched the other girl in silence. Carefully, she took a step closer to her before carefully wrapping her arms around Wraith's shoulders in a small, nervous hug. "Are you mad?"

That was all the encouragement she needed. Wraith happily threw her arms around Fire, hugging her tight and laughing a little. "I'm not mad!" She stepped back to beam at her. "I'm really glad to see you. Things have been, uh...a little rough lately." She shrugged that part off. "So where did you go? O-or if it's private, I understand."

Fire tightened her arms around the other girl, holding onto the hug for a moment longer before slowly pulling away. "I went up towards Midtown," she explained with a shrug. "I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret the second I got there. But I was stubborn, I was determined not to come back right away."
"Things are rough?" she asked, a worried look on her face. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," she assured Fire quickly. "It's just...my brother..." She sighed worriedly and shook her head. "Well, he has a way of getting into trouble. And then overthinking it all and making things even worse for himself. I've been trying to help him, but I can't do much more than listen. I think maybe he just needs some time." And possibly an armed bodyguard.((I'm gonna head to bed! <3 See you soon? )

"Oh..." she said, trying her best to understand without seeming too nosy. "Well, I hope it all works out for him, and you."
She looked up at the sky and frowned when she saw the clouds gathering overhead. This was her least favorite part about winter. "It's getting dark already."
((Aww, definitely! Sleep well! <3))

"Won't be many stars out, either," Wraith said with a sigh, eyeing the clouds. In the impending darkness, even her beloved roof seemed almost stifling. "Would you, uh...like to go somewhere?" She fidgeted shyly. "I mean...we could get something to eat or...see a show or something...get caught up..." What was she even saying?

"I'd love to," Fire replied without a moment's hesitation. Before meeting this girl, she would've thought twice about accepting the invitation. Before, she would've spent more time trying to decipher whether or not the invitation was a genuine one or some kind of cruel joke. However, with Wraith, it just seemed... different.
"Now that you mention it, I am a little hungry..."

She smiled brightly. "Tibby's?" It occurred to her after she said it that a couple of the Duane Street newsgirls worked there...but what did that matter? She was allowed to have dinner with a friend, for goodness sake. She would not let the family streak of paranoia get the best of her this time.

"I can't think of a better place," Fire replied with a laugh. Honestly, she couldn't, it was practically the only restaurant in the neighborhood that she had gone to. She took a step away from the other girl and carefully climbed over the ledge and onto the fire escape.
"Do you think it will be busy?" she asked casually as she leaned against the railing of the fire escape, waiting for Wraith to follow down behind her.
