Adri scoffed at him. "Yeah! But they better know that you're my best friend first and if anyone tries to date you, I have to approve them first!" she said sternly, giving him a look. She was only joking. Sort of.

"Yeah? You really think girls are gonna start talking to me now?" Eli laughed, his old self coming out again. He didn't know why he was so nervous before- it was Adri, and she was the best. "Are you sure they won't read between the lines that I secretly hope they will bring up the cast of the new Batman movie?"

"That's 'cause they don't even know the cast of the new Batman movie except maybe for Christian Bale," she chuckled, tugging on his arm so he'd move next to her. "But I still think having Joseph Gordon-Levitt there definitely made it drool worthy." She smirked at him, knowing how much he took his movies and comics seriously.

Eli laughed. He loved that she watched all those nerdy movies with him. It was probably why he put up with so many chick flicks for her. "So what about you? Any summer romances?" He felt fairly confident now. Maybe Adri only saw him as her geeky neighbor, but he could do this.
Eli could make her fall in love with him.

Adri rolled her eyes and scoffed. "You know those never work out too well for me," she answered, grabbing a random comic off of his table and browsing it. "They get attached and I choke. Literally. It's not pretty."

Eli hesitated. If only she knew just how attached he was. He'd spent the whole summer changing everyhting about him- from his greasy hair down to his toes- just so she'd finally notice him. "Well all the better I guess," Eli said finally, looking at her. "No one is good enough for you anyway."

"Yeah!" she said excitedly, sitting up and reaching over to turn on the TV. "You get any new ones?" She loved how she can just be herself around Eli, whether it meant playing video games with him or talking about comics.
