"Psh yeah right," Eli laughed, handing her a controller.

"You had the whole summer to practice!" she teased, nudging him with her shoulder. "You have any stories, anyway?"

Eli shook his head. "It was mostly just me working out, or hanging with Luke in my basement. Kinda lame. How about you?

"Hanging out with little kids... y'know how it is at camp," she chuckled, shrugging. She glanced over at him, still surprised at how much he physically changed the past couple months. "Are you sure you didn't meet a girl?"

Eli shook his head, chuckling. "c'mon Adri. Me? Unless I met her at the comic book store, I got no game. Why...do you keep asking?"

"It's just... Why'd you go and, well, get a makeover? Er, for guys, I mean," she said awkwardly.

He looked down at his controller, and shrugged. "I was sick of it. Being the ugly fat guy. Especially when Eric is so...attractive. Hes been begging to help me out for years and was home from college...just seemed right I guess." he looked at her. "I don't wanna be ignored anymore."

"By who?" she asked curiously, looking at him in confusion as she tried to understand where he was coming from. She never knew Eli to care too much about what people thought and that was what she liked about him.

"By....by everyone," Eli shrugged. "my parents. Luke. You."

Adri blinked, her jaw dropping. "Me? Why me?"

"Oh come on, Adri. We haven't spoken at school since like 4th grade," he pointed out. Adri may be the smartest, prettiest, and kindest girl he has ever known, but even she sticks to her own friends at school.

"But I thought you didn't want to do that," she said, now completely forgetting about the game and focusing all her attention on him. He'd kept to his friends and she had hers yet they were still best friends and that never got in the way. "Eli, we're still friends, right?"

"Yeah, of course!" Eli replied, with a shrug. "But...I was miserable, Adri. How could you not see that?"

Adri looked at him thoughtfully, only now realizing what was going on. "So you thought that by changing yourself, things'll get better? Eli, you could've talked to me at school, y'know that, right?" She felt torn. She didn't know he was miserable but they were such good friends... how could she have possibly missed that?

Eli shrugged. "Maybe, but I don't think it would have helped." He sighed, glancing over at her. "I'm fine. Really. Dont...please dont worry."
