Eli bit his lip. "No, I haven't seen Luke yet. I have lunch with him, I was planning on talking to him then." They reached her classroom and Eli gave her an awkward wave. "See you later."

Adri nodded, walking into the classroom. She wondered how Luke would take his new makeover, especially now that he was getting all the attention. Once her class ended, she headed over towards her locker, secretly keeping an eye out for Eli as she talked to her friends.

Eli had completely planned on meeting Luke for lunch, like he always did, every day. But on his way, Lizzie smith, whom he had sat next to in class, invited him to sit with her.
And he couldn't say no.
Eli walked into the cafeteria wig Lizzie, waved hello at Luke, and sat down next to her

Adri saw the whole scene play out as she ate lunch with her friends. She frowned when she saw how upset Luke looked once he realized what his friend just did. Actually feeling quite sorry for him, Adri stood up and sat down next to Luke, giving him a small smile (hey, she did actually know him!) before finishing her lunch.

Eli barely noticed this exchange until lunch was nearly over. Lizzie had been blabbering about a welcome-back-to-school bonfire that she was throwing, which Eli was pretty sure he was invited to! But then he noticed luke and Adri and he knew he had to go join them.
"hey" he greeted his friends, sitting down at their table.

"About time you found us," teased Adri, although she knew that Luke felt differently. She glanced over at Lizzie, determined to find out what the two had just talked about.

"yeah, sorry, I didn't...wanna be rude." Eli replied with a shrug. Luke gave his friend an annoyed look.
"can you please warn me next time you decide to sit with the popular kids?! Jesus Eli." Luke scolded, glaring st him.
Eli gave his friend a cold look. "I got us all invited to their bonfire Saturday! You should be thanking me!"

Adri watched the two boys exchange words, actually quite surprised at what she was seeing. She never knew Eli and Luke to fight like this.
"Just come sit with us, Eli," said Adri, shooting him a look. Dammit, if she ditched her friends for his, he better sit down.

"I'm here!" Eli replied, a little shocked by Adri's outburst and sitting down. "you are gonna come to Lizzie's bonfire, won't you?"

Adri nodded, "Yeah, I already told her I'd go earlier. Luke, you should come with... maybe you'll like it. And Eli's coming too, anyway."

Luke glanced between the two of them then shrugged. "I guess." even though he was secretly excited. What would he wear?
Eli smiled at Adri. This was perfect, he could finally tell her how he felt, it would be so romantic. They could roast a marshmallow together and then kiss... "Maybe we can even carpool?"

"As long as you drive," teased Adri, now feeling excited about the bonfire.

"done!" Eli responded, grinning at her.
"ah, so you like his new Beemer?" Luke commented with a laugh.

Adri smirked. "Hey, if he wants to drive it around, I'm not gonna complain!" she said, spotting her friends not too far away. "See you later? You're giving me a ride home, right?"

Eli nodded, waving goodbye at her in a daze.
Luke watched her go, too. "you are fooling yourself, man. It's never gonna happen."
Eli glared at him. "it will. I'm not gonna give up." at the end of the school day, Eli was walking back to his car, conversing with a girl from his last class. By the end of the day, he had discovered that even starting a convo with a girl usually meant she would give him more than a few word exchange. It was nice, it felt good to meet new people.
