The waitress came up to their table. "What was that, Sugar?" She smiled at Les. "Onion rings and a chocolate shake? Anything else?"

Les bounced a little in his seat. "And a cheese burger with everything!"
David rolled his eyes. "Cheeseburger and a Cherry Coke, please." He gave Les a pointed look, and Les gave him a sheepish grin.

Zippy grinned at David, looking at him fondly, while Eli just raised a brow at him. After Zippy and Eli ordered, Zippy showed Les how to make a paper airplane.

Les bit on his tongue in concentration as he attempted to make his own.
David kept his hand on Zippy's thigh, but glanced over at Eli occasionally, pursing his lips.

Eli cleared his throat. "So...David. I heard that you were one of the leaders of the great Newsies strike of 1899. Must have been crazy." He needed to try. For his sister.
Zippy gave Eli a grateful look. She wasn't sure why David was being so grouchy.

David arched a brow, but nodded. "Jack and me came up with the idea. Jack really led it, though."

((Night!))
David frowned a little, shifting in his seat. "I did all the planning. I guess I was the brains, and Jack was the muscle. And the showman. He had more charisma than I did."

"Still impressive," Eli pointed out, and Zippy nodded.
"David is crazy smart." She gushed, rubbing his arm. "He's applying to college soon."

David blushed a little, squeezing Zippy's knee. "It's not a big deal..."
Les piped up, slurping on the shake the waitress brought over, along with the rest of their drinks. "Mama and Papa want him to go to Dart-Mouth, but Davey won't go 'cause a' Zippy."
David glared at his brother, kicking him under the table.
"Ow! What'd I say??"

Eli looked down at Les. "Wait, what?"
Zippy cleared her throat, shaking her head. Eli looked at David then. "What's going on?"

David glowered at Les, who shrunk back in the booth and hid behind his milkshake. Oops.
David sighed. "Nothing. Les doesn't know what he's talking about."

Eli looked at Zippy, who shrugged. "Dave got accepted early into college, but doesn't want to leave New York City."
Eli nodded, looking at Dave. "Well good work, Davey. Mazel tov."

David nodded a thanks, but glanced over at Zippy. He wasn't sure Eli meant it -- and wasn't sure Eli didn't think he was crazy for staying.
