"Oh!!" Lana exclaimed, feeling a tad bit embarrassed that she didn't understand the meaning behind his joked the first time.
She bit down on her lower lip and slowly reached for his hand. "What do you think happens to all the fish when the water freezes?"

Leo tilted his head. "I dont know. We can look that up at the library too," he smiled at her, squeezing her hand. "This pond isn't completely frozen though. Im sure all the fish are swimming around at the bottom."

Lana could help but laugh at the idea of all the fish in the pond swimming into one another under a thick coat of ice. "I bet it is very crowded," she joked, smiling up at him. "Not much room to swim freely."

"Eh, they probably enjoy it. Keeps them warmer," Leo reflected, chuckling. "Kinda like us. new York is so crowded."

Leo was right. Compared to what Lana was used to, New York was a whole different (and more crowded) pond of fish. She nodded as she let her thumb run idly over his. "Perhaps you are right," she agreed, "it is better to be warm and crowded than cold and lonely."

Leo smiled at her, nodding. He stopped walking, and turned to face her. "Would you like to join me for dinner tomorrow night?"

Lana nodded quickly. Was he for real? He actually wanted to spend more time with her?? "I would like to," she answered happily. "You do not have to work at Medda's?"

"I do," Leo clarified. "Come by after my shift. I am working from 12 to 6."

"Oh!" Lana laughed, "Okay. I will do that." She looked up at the sky and frowned. It was getting dark already! Why couldn't the day time last at least a little bit longer? "Do you want to go back?"

Leo sighed, glancing around the park. "Yes, we probably should. It is not safe to walk around here at night." He took her hand again and they headed back. It was a lot colder outside. "How is work? Are you enjoying it?"

"I like it very much," Lana answered. A cold gust of wind blew past from behind them and, shivering, she instinctively pulled herself closer to him. "I am learning many things. Medda says I catch on very quickly." She looked up at him and smiled. "Thank you. Again."

"Stop thanking me!" He laughed and wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "We should go back. Make tea, yes?"

"I am sorry! I do not know what else to say!" Lana laughed harder, "Yes, we should have tea. That sounds like the perfect idea."

Leo smiled. "I can't wait for you to see the park when it's spring!" he led her back to the lodging house.

"I cannot wait, either!" Lana said excitedly, her face lighting up at the thought of it. "I will make us a lunch and we can eat outside!"
