Birdie nodded, biting her lip. "Well, I do know 'Beautiful Dreamer,' it was one of my mother's favorites." She smiled at him and started to play it. It was a slow, soft song, and unconsciously she closed her eyes as she played.

Jack listened intently. It was incredibly beautiful and he watched as though in a trance. She was amazing.

Birdie played the last strains of the song, letting out a happy sigh and slowly opening her eyes. She glanced over at Jack and flushed a little, laughing.

She nodded with a wistful little smile. "He was wonderful. And he and my mother loved each other very much." With a sigh, she sadly brushed her fingers over the violin. "I miss them so much."

"well, I miss my ma all the time. She was the best...but I know she didn't just disappear, that she's watching over me." Jack said with a smile.

Birdie set her violin back down and hugged her knees, leaning towards him a little. "What was she like, your mother?" she asked, giving him a quiet smile.

Impulsively Birdie reached over and took his hand, squeezing it with a sympathetic look. "If she could see you, she'd be very proud of you, Jack. You're a wonderful person."
