She looked right at him and then sat down next to him, taking his hands and drawing them into her lap. Vi started to see what had happened, and she sighed. "Bloody hell Da's sendin letter to the wrong place isn' 'e?" One big screw up of no one being where anyone expects them to be. "'m sorry Ry... I thought ya knew. I didn' think Da wouldn' tell ya.. but he mighta sent all his letters to the wrong place.."

"I never went far, Vi..." he muttered, frowning. He couldn't blame his father if he simply sent it to wrong place. Then again, he wasn't too surprised. Ma was always the one to make sure everything was done correctly. And now that she was gone...
"Did you all give her a proper funeral, at least?" he said, his face finally softening.

"Aye," she reached over and wrapped her arm around his neck, drawing him close to her. They were strangers now-- but they were still family. "Proper Irish wake-- She didn' suffer long."

"Good," he sighed, finally looking over at her before wrapping his arms around her for a hug. "That's good."

She smiled a little bit and pressed her face into his shoulder, "When'd ya get so tall? We used ta be the same height.." Not anymore.. he was bigger it almost made her smile. She'd missed him really, didn't want to fight with him. "I'm glad yer okay.."

His brotherly instincts snapped back almost immediately. He pulled back to look at her, his face full of concern. "What're you doing here, anyway? At the Races? In Brooklyn? Are you with a boy?"

She reached up and pinched his cheeks, "Workin' at the pub local.. livin with our brother Brodie. No, no lad for me.. if yer wonderin though I'm fond of the Brooks lads, we understand each other and get on. Even when I fight with Tristan." She smiled and then kissed his cheek after she pinched it. "I'm doin' well."

"Brodie?" he repeated, a smile forming on his face. He missed his brothers, no matter how crazy they were. His face fell, however, when he heard his name. He knew him enough, especially with how often word gets around Manhattan. He never met him but first impressions always stuck. "Tristan?"

"Big boxin' brute... reminds me of Da in that way. He's still prize fightin, Da is." They were all insane though. "Gav married this lady named Sarah and they've got two boys... woman is mad as a matter but 'long as Gav loves her.. I have ta be civil.."

"Everyone's all grown up..." he muttered, chuckling softly. And yet, here he was, still stuck in the past. He gave her a small smile and grabbed her hand. "C'mon, we'll catch up in a bit. The race is about to start!"

She nodded her head and let him tug her up, she said she had five brothers and it was true. She had five brothers and two were twins. But Ryan had been closest to her in age they could have been twins. "Course, everyone does Ry." At the thought of the races she flashed him a smile, she still loved horses.

"Did ya place a bet?" he asked, moving towards the closest area with the best view. "If my horse wins, let's go eat somewhere, yeah?" He wasn't about to deny that he missed his family, especially Violet.

She nodded her head and leaned forward on the bar, standing on the second bar and leaning over laughing a bit. "We should.. need ta see how you've changed now? If ya weren't at school-- where ya been?"

"Been a newsie in Manhattan," he answered truthfully, eagerly awaiting for the race to start. "I didn't get in school. I didn't have the heart to tell everybody... well, to let everybody down."

She looked over at him and drew her closer to stand where she could use him for a prop and looked out over the course. The horses... they were about ready. "Probably why you didn' get any a the letters, Da sent. He was sendin' em all to the school-- about all a us comin. Maybe he thought you were ashamed of us now-- bein' all educated. But look atcha.. can't even tell your Irish.." She was teasing a bit, leaning on his shoulder to hold herself up. Brenna Violet was still as tiny as their mother had been... she had the look of her, the eyes, the quick smile and the figure. Nothing like the rest of the family. All of the tall and massive with those broad chests and huge arms.
